'Ole Blue RC10
i picked this up off ebay last week. it had a "team driver" feel, and i just had to have it. and going by some other items that were being sold by the seller at the same time, it was possible imo. after the auction, i asked the seller about it, and he said the car was owned by a factory driver, but he wouldn't give me a name. oh well. here are some of the pics from the auction.

Re: 'Ole Blue RC10
well, it showed up today. pretty quick i must say.
novak 4 esc
s131s servo
i was bummed to see this. the other holiday buggy tire is fine.
check out the pinned diff
A stamp
edinger reedy mod. take notice of the writing on the label. looks like remnants of a year at the top, and "worlds" neear the bottom. also notice the double dot. 3 other edinger mod motors were sold by this seller. a fellow member got one of those and it too has a double dot. significance? don't know yet.

Re: 'Ole Blue RC10
Kind of a cool time capsule! I'd leave it just the way it is, minus dirt of course.
Oh, I might have a tire for you in similar wear condition without the cracked sidewalls.

thanks for the offer on the tire. if you dig one up (or even a pair) let me know.RedScampi wrote:Kind of a cool time capsule! I'd leave it just the way it is, minus dirt of course.

the only thing i have planned for this is a real good cleaning, and a lot of that is done already. i'm not soaking parts in peroxide (which i don't think could handle it anyway) or anything like that. i'm gonna try and retain all of the original hardware too. thankfully, it's not horrible. if anything would need to be replaced, i'll just dig up nicer used stuff.
i have to put a new switch on the esc since the original is missing, though the shrink wrap from it is still there

i also sent curtis an email asking his thoughts on the motor, if there was any significance to the 2 dots. here was his reply:
Hi Jason,
Mike Reedy used to use colored dots to show what winds and wire size was used in the motors. Mike had a code that he kept very quiet about. I don’t remember what the Gold and Silver dots meant. It could mean, for instance a 10 or 12 turn triple but with 2 different wire sizes. This could in fact be a Team Motor you have. Regarding the Sharpie writing on the label. Chances are it was someone’s name. people would leave him a motor and he would tru the com for them and give it back to them so he would sometimes put their name on the motor. Not really sure though.
Curtis
in person, it really, really looks like the the label says "worlds". but who knows, maybe that was the guys last name.

Re: 'Ole Blue RC10
Very cool find, I was also watching it on Ebay, glad someone like you ended up with it who knew what he had, can't wait to see her all cleaned up.

Re: 'Ole Blue RC10
couple pics after the tear down.
cleaned up white parts on left, majority of the cleaned up hardware and shocks on the right. i still have to rebuild the shocks, just wanted to get the gunk off before hand.
here's a couple more mods on the front end. in above pics, you can see where lower shock mounting holes were added to the front tower. because of that, the front arms were notched out for clearance of the steering arm. that was also tweaked up on both sides too.

Re: 'Ole Blue RC10
Nice little diamond in the rough Jason! Were any of the other motors with a red Reedy label and how much did you get it for? If you don't mind me asking!
The blue anodizing is custom right?

Wow, this is a really fascinating find, I'm glad it found it's way into the collection of someone who knows what he has.

Quick update with a cell phone pic.
The other night I got started on reassembly. Chassis/suspension first, then last night, cleaned and oiled the bearing and got the trans back together an back in the car. Shocks up next.

Re: 'Ole Blue RC10
looking good, Doesn't even need a peroxide bath. I like the look of the aged nylon. They are actually brighter than I would have imagined, after looking at how you got it.
