What size are the balls and are they the same size as the ZX-5 balls? I want to get some for my two runnersj0pp3 wrote:
For a serious runner it's possible to replace the diff balls with modern ceramic balls.

Re: Turbo Optima Mid + Turbo Optima Mid SE build/restore
Thanks Jeff and j0pp3. I did as recommended, black grease for the thrust and Kyosho diff grease for the ball diff.Jay Dub wrote:I have always been a fan of the associated stealth grease for the diff, and black grease for the thrust. -Jeff
I'm still unclear on how to properly adjust the diff, though...the aforementioned instructions are useless because "the diff body should not turn idly" is arbitrary and makes no sense. I got the diff outdrive on one side to reverse-rotate nice and smooth to the other side, but it seemed otherwise to be quite loose--maybe that's how it's supposed to be? When I tighten it even just a bit more, the reverse-rotation seems to have too much friction/resistance, and a bit more tight and it feels scrapey, which can't be right.
How do you guys recommend adjusting the ball diff, in empirical terms if possible?

Re: Turbo Optima Mid + Turbo Optima Mid SE build/restore
If its any help I have had Fibrelyte make me this SWB chassis, along with some other custom parts which will turn up in my thread if I start this build next now the SP is nearing completionj0pp3 wrote:Thanks!uniquenamehere wrote:Wow...nice work with the dremel!
Word! Next part to create will be a Rear Plate (L). For that I will use an OT-114 as a blueprint even if I won't use it to mount a mechanical speed control. And after that I may try to do my own chassis designed to use saddle pack LiPo's but by then I think my runner will have it's own threadJerzi wrote:Very nice parts.
With dremel you can do what ever you want. And the finish is superb.
