Interesting Twist on a X2 Tranny

Post by mrlexan »

Hmmm... what do you think this guy was thinking? He actually cut the motor plate off and moved it to the other side. I am also interested in pulling it apart to see what he did to the LH trans case. I assume that he just flipped the top shaft, we'll see when I pull it apart. I do love the hyperdrive though.

Or, am I completely missing it.... with the hyperdrive, was this a required mod?

He did this because of the hyper drive. think about it. Normally the pinion moves the spur in the opposite direction but with the hyper drive set up, the spur and poinion move in the same direction. on a normal set up this is backwards for a motor and if you run an advanced timing motor, your motor isn't going to like reversed polarity.

The odd thing is that appears to be a mod motor with adjustable timing... for a stock motor I can see the reason. :?

If you just reverse a mod motor is still under performs. Remember when the actually made reverse rotation motors? Those were just what is now known as Hemi wound. They're wound in the opposite direction (basically) so they actually spin the other direction with the same given polarity.

I did the same swap to make mine into a mid-moter.
Along with shortening the rear H-arm, slider shafts, and a bunch more.
Why? Well I actually turned the car into my very first 200mm touringcar.
Had a short wheelbase Renault Clio shell and the rear-moter-design just could no-way fit under the body.
This was many, many years ago.
Thanks for calling up that memory.

Added: where did the gearcover come from?

Yes sir it is....... I think I might leave this X2 as is (with the hyperdrive), just the typical tear down and clean up. It has never been run, with only one issue. I need to remove some epoxy from the chassis, any suggestions would be appreciated. (WHY do people use expoxy?)

David,
does that mean the gearcover is symmetrical (up down)? I see nother way you could just flip it to the other side.

I'll take your word for it> I owned this car long ago, but like many of my cars, I got my Losi 2nd hand and this one came without the gearcover.

Ed, it isn't symetrical at all, see pics... If you like, I still have some NIP gearcover for the Jrx2...

LOL forget that car , I still have some parts for it but the last time I used the chassis was on a half-8 project. It's about half size of what is was long ago.
The Losi never stuck to me like the ultima did.
But now , if that cover is not symmetrical, how could he flip it over?

Jay, are you sure that belt-system is a hyperdrive? It kinda looks like if it has 3mm pitch belts.
Cedric got a bunch of hyperdrive stuff and told me it was a smaller pitch.
