Kyosho Racing Box

Post by civilguy »

I've been searching through old posts and scans but can't seem to find the old blue plastic "Racing Box" screw kits that Kyosho used to make. I have one that may have most of the original black hardware (screws, bolts, washers, locknuts) that came with it and I am trying to find an advertisement that showed what came with the loaded ones. I think they sold the cases empty too... but my memory is faded.
Thanks for any help!

I had one of these years ago that I got new with my Big Brute-what a day that was-and one that I found in a vintage purchase a few months ago. My memory is they had all black screws and washers. Short and long course, short and long machines, washers...mostly the standard screw size. The one I found in a vintage bulk deal recently had exactly the same primarily until I did some sorting a few days ago. If you want a pic let me know.

I have a couple that I have dug out of storage... I am going on another cleaning spree.
I am actually looking for an original ad-- unfortunately I didn't save any of my old Tower catalogs- so I can find out what came in them (quantity and size). I think one of the kits I have is almost complete.
It will probably be posted up in the BST area soon--- I don't have any Kyosho RCs at this time (although if I ever found a mint Vanning at a yard sale for the right price that would be all mine :D ).

I have an empty case or two as well. I've seen new complete ones go for a lot more than expected on eBay.

Sort of why I wanted to see how complete it was.

I have a couple of these that I've been tapping for parts routinely. One of them I got had the cardboard cover still on it and all the screws were in numbered bags. I could swear I put up pictures but can't find them now.

I've also seen those from time to time on eBay, usually asking price is WAY more than they're worth. Considering you can get a full stainless-steel hex-headed screw set for most vintage Kyosho cars for around $20, it's not too cost-effective buying one of those screw sets.

Gallery - Coel's Stalls: Marui Galaxy & Shogun Resto-Mods | FrankenBuff AYK Buffalo | 1987 Buick GNX RC12L3

They were not a good deal bitd either! It was close to the price of the entire screw set for a kyosho car

Thanks. I don't have any Kyoshos, so I was going to list the box here (at some point). I wasn't looking to make a killing... more looking to see if what I have is complete or at least the correct parts that came in these boxes.

Yeah, they were kinda pricey BITD. I can check the original prices this evening, if you like.

The boxes are black now, and don't include the screws:

They still sell well.
