Texas Wild Baja rebuild
Texas Wild Baja rebuild
Ok on to my next build and since i've had this for years it's only fair
The details : This is an HP nitro model from the 70's, it came in 3 guises 1:Porsche 930 2:Texas Wild Baja 3:Volvo 343. Since it seems you can no longer source parts for them and I want to rebuild it, I have decided to rebuild with some custom upgrades.
Whats next : I have ordered a Fairlady 240z bodyshell that will fit perfect and a new electronics box , both of these are from the Kyosho-Graupner circuit 20 of the same era and of similar chassis design . I will be upgrading the fuel tank to a Thunder Tiger mt4a version which fits snug where I want it to go Most of the nuts and bolts will be upgraded to allen headed and nylon lock nuts, there will be a few other custom bits as I go, so we'll cover them as they come.

Re: The HP TWB customization
Ok so tonight I got excited and started polishing then there was enough bits to start reassembly I'm still undecided whether to leave the gear box and a few other bits raw for a contrast or to polish the same? What do you all think?
Anyway here's a couple of pic's for you.

Re: The HP TWB customization
Ok so polished it is
Well tonight I managed to shine up the 4 front trailing arms and all the other front suspension components, reassembled both sides then there was just enough time to polish the rear trailing arm mounts
. Ok, so next i'll finish the rear suspension and hopefully my new shell and radio box arrive.

Re: The HP TWB customization
Right, i'm still waiting for my shell to arrive and I've been busy at work, so not much progress
however I did manage to get a 3 cycle paint strip done on the rim's and with a little bit of meticulous cleaning I now have them back to raw  I will be repainting them and want to do a light colour, any suggestions lads? (not silver lol.)anyway here's a couple of pic's for you

Good call that, I know the Porsche 930 had white rims in the box art. Maybe powder coating? can you powder coat alloy?Mr. ED wrote:pearl white

checked with the company sending my shell + radio box and they gave me a tracking number, so hopefully i'll receive them this week :woohoo: anyhow heres a pic of the raw rim's

Re: The HP TWB customization
Hey, well I did manage to polish the rear arms an suspension bits tonight
I also managed to reassemble them both too
thought I point out the mod I made, subtle but sweet
It's the alloy tappered spacer in between the trailing arm pivot and the locking nut
and as always heres a couple of pic's, enjoy
oohh and I took a couple with the tyres on for show
what a contrast with light coloured rims

Re: The HP TWB customization
Ok so after a particularly challenging day
I was greated at home by a box
My package from Kuwait had arrived with goodies inside
super stoked with them

Re: The Hobby Proucts "Texas Wild Baja" customization
Tonight I found motivation to do some more polishing on her
, this time the gear box
it's a very simple 2 gear setup with no diff.

Those wheels are just begging for some elbow-grease...here's my vote to go through the effort to polish them. I know it'll be a pain with those spokes, but I'd do it if it were me.
