Retro hop-ups making a legend faster...

Post by CUDDZILLA »

Gentlemen.
I spent the evening in my garage wrenching on my Gold pan.
I've been racing her this summer(dirt oval Street Stock 13.5 turn brushless) and doing quite well against a field of 20+ Losi and Custom works cars.

She's the red and white one on the right. 2nd in the A main that day in a field of 18 cars.
Anyway, I spent the evening tearing the old 6 gear trans down for clean and re-lube.
Added a Losi-ball bearing diff tube as well as a Thorp 48 pitch gear conversion. During this I was magically transported back to 1989. Cleaning and massaging that first RC10 that I converted every week from Off road to paved road course...to dirt oval...to paved oval. I was reminded of why I got into this hobby/sport, how I became addicted to it, and why it still makes me feel like a kid. And just exactly why I fell in love with the RC10 to begin with.

So tell me...what are YOU working on? Shelf Queen? Racer? Street Rod? ...C'mon!....show and tell!!!!

I do not know how I managed to miss this thred. I now know you and your car, though I do have many questions.

What im working on is another dirt oval car. Though I wont race it, I will take it out to the track from time to time. It seem like all I do is wrench on the car, though its fun to do now and again it gets tire some after a while. I have my own track out back where I will play with others from around me. Any how here is the car.

That's awesome man! I'm re-living 1987 through my old Gold Pan too, I'm hoping to get it sorted out so I can race it at my new local indoor offroad track. I used to race this in Bozrah CT on a outdoor offroad track every sunday, then during the winter would convert it to run indoor carpet at the K of C in Norwich CT on Sunday's. A buddy of mine has one too, I'm trying to get him off his butt and get it running!

Here's mine; 1987 Gold Pan "A"

Thanks for posting HDMM. You sound a lot like me. My first Gold Pan got converted EVERY week. Off road, dirt oval(my fav), paved road course, paved oval, carpet. I'm so glad to see so many fans of this particular machine. Keep those pics coming! Tell me a story!!!!!

Thanks Cuddzilla, Time mostly, I don't have allot of time and we only get one day to set up, practice, and race. Plus i would need better motor/esc, and battery's. My LHS's stock class is 10T losi system. SO I have decided to just give it a rest. Sold off alotta stuff and I'm down to 5 body's now. I would like to know how you got that body to fit so good. Oh and just for you CUDDZilla here is another shot of my car............And here is a link that shows the history since I bought the car.

It's great to see another circle track fan here. I haven't raced in many years, but a new track is opening near me...I'll be having my 6-gear out there very soon.

Check the youtube link in my signature...from 1988. Outlaw night, 7 cell, run-what-you-brung.
The older I get, the faster I was.

Russ we arent the only oval guys here just the only ones that have chimed in.

CUDD--The street stock rules you have are pretty open. I couldnt believe what i saw. If I built a car top them specs it would be illegal here, and mine is.

Wanna try my car?
