RC18's

Post by cooter »

Hey guys, Newbie question. I've spent a few hours looking around and was unable to locate anything. #1 is there a 'search' feature? If so, I'll be able to answer my own question. If not, here's the question: Is there a section dedicated to RC18's? If this is just another stupid newbie question...please just ignore. :D Thanks guys.

The search button is at the very top of the page near the center. Right under the old RC10 pic.

Since this site is really more centered around the 80's and early 90's, no RC18 specific area here. I'm not even sure it's ever been discussed.

I have an RC18b2/t2 that I play around with every so often. I keep melting the rear diff. though, so its currently in pieces awaiting some alloy outdrives. RC Tech has a very good section on all mini and micro scale cars including several on various versions of the RC18. Check it here:http://www.rctech.net/forum/micro-mini-scales-115.

Its been discussed here a little bit. Mostly its asking whey there is no love for them  .

I've got several myself and really can't get nothing out of them so they sit here waiting for them to become 'vintage' 8)

I've got three already! Got my boys into RC by making a small track in the back field and now they are hooked. The 18's were cheaper to get started with and actually turned out to be a blast to run (especially the brushless T/B2's).

Tires are a pain though, the stock ones wear instantly and the best tires, Pro Line Dirt Hawg's are discontinued so they are a pain to find.

Might look into converting two of them to SC18's to match the current trend of "SC"...

Cheers

Hi there I had a rc18b that I had modded extensively including a Cm26 motor and aluminum everything. But I ended up trading it for a T4 and have missed it since. The thing I liked about it was that it was super fast on 3s and tough as nails. I bought the axles and tires to do the 18r conversion but traded it before I could do so. I had the MIP diffs too

had the megatech "b100" aka rc18 clone. was a super fun car for farting around. had a lot of fun times with that car. wish id never sold it.

ill add a warning though. as soon as you start stacking up the power in those mini cars it just gets frustrating.

Yep - I put in a brushless CM20 castle then that wasn't enough so I put in the uber rare CM26 motor, I think it was a 5700 kv AND I got a 3S Integy lipo that fit the stock battery location. Fast was an understatement - but I broke the arms and the stock diff and spur gears were toast very quickly. Replaced them all with upgraded aftermarket parts (aluminum top deck, arms for starters) and it was still insanely fast PLUS virtually indestructible. Loved it but there wasn't anyone else to really race with in my area. Oh well.

Does anyone know how the RC18B2 tranny holds up with their Reedy Brushless system? Got the latest Tower catalog in the mail yesterday and just like every other time I get one I got a new wild hare up my ass. Thinking one of these might be a fun new endeavor. 8)

We've never had a forum for them but they have been discussed sporadically. I have two 18rs with castle brushless motors. They absolutely scream. Ballistic with a three cell lipo. I have a pretty much stock 18t thats most fun to play with.

Don't know, I put some crazy 9200kv Dynamite BL in it with the ball diffs. I knew I would hate the plastic gear diffs as I was building them so I ordered the ball diffs. The rear melted after 2 runs, ordered another and changed gearing and it still melted again. Picked up some titanium ball diff outdrives from the bay and no issues yet, I haven't really gone crazy with it. I don't really care for the stock tranny. Tuning, I think, is tedious. The front belt can rub on the pinion if you're not careful. But, it seems there are plenty of aftermarket companies that sell alloy parts for it.

Best day I had with it was when my wife was running the rc10 with an orion experience 2 set up and I was able to mostly keep up just messing around on a softball infield. Someone's dog saw them and started to chase until I turned it around and started chasing the dog. It didn't know what to do! Then something melted... I still like bashing with it, wouldn't race it, and as such, kids and adults (and dogs) who aren't into rc see it going really fast at the park or where ever and they go nuts. Want to know what it is, how much, where to buy etc.

Thanks for the input. I'm torn between this and one of the Rally cars out.
