Stupid fast t3....what to do?

Post by Dogbone »

This thing is wack...

Its a t3 with a mamba max 7700 and a 7 cell 3800 pack. Its uncontrollable

forget about punching it off the line, but even at speed attempting to accelerate, it just goes sideways and you lose it.

Bigger tires just makes it flip over instantly, even with a wheely bar...its like a fish out of water.
right now its just got pin tires on it

:(

You need to hook the ESC to your computer VIA usb cable and turn your starting punch down. You can also adjust the throttle curve to make it a little more controllable. Just like scr8p said, try using a 6 cell pack too.

You can also adjust the punch/traction coltrol setting using the manual method without hooking up to a computer. Check the manual for instructions on how to do that. By default, that setting is disabled, allowing full power. You may want to start with it on the High setting and work your way down (up in power) until you find the correct setting.

And as a side note... I have the same ESC/Motor in my T4, but with 7.4V Lipo. Just a little advice based on my experience with this setup - go ahead and order new tires and tranny & spur gears now. You'll need them soon. :D

Yeah, I had this in a t4, it was actually easier to control...maybe I have a bad setup on this truck.

I may be done with rc....

My gold pan is like a turtle next to this, so Im pretty much ruined on all fronts :?

I guess the 5B is my next move

You can also reduce the motor timing through the MM, if you want to cut overall top speed. It wont help the abundance of torque, but, like they said, punch and traction control should help. A 6 cell would also cut it a little bit. You are up near 65000 RPMs with 7 cells.

Its funny you have put this post up here.Ive done the very same thing with my Schumacher Storm 2000 truck.Ive been 'trying' to run a 7700 and 7 cell battery on the beach.Needless to say Ive stripped the teeth off the diff gear twice without getting a few minutes out of the car.Im running big monster beetle tyres on the truck and its like watching a land speed record car tearing down the beach.

Im wondering about something...

I have access to a cheap traxxas revo, wonder how the motor would do on a heavier 4x4 vehicle? Castle claims its not for use on "monster trucks" but these lightweight cars just act plain stupid.

Wouldnt have enough torque for a revo. Itll get real hot, real quick. You need a much lower KV motor for something like that. You get more speed by adding voltage. I've burned up 2400-3000 KV motors on similar setups. I am, however, able to use the mamba max on 14 cells even though its only rated to 12. Never had a problem with it. 7700 KV is just nuts. It would probably be fine on like 5 cells...

I am waiting on a 5mm pinion, but I am planning on running a 3300 KV great planes ammo (35 bucks on tower - a total steal) with a mamba max on my T4. I dont think it will be crazy fast, but the run times should be good.

ANyone ever added weight to a truck to make it handle better? I know this is contrary, but maybe if this truck weighed another pound or two it would react better.

To go that fast requires a perfect setup, it's a lot of work (trial and error). For starters the battery should be as far back as possible, and your diff needs to be tight but still smooth (ceramic diff balls help a lot). Some of the guys around here add a few of the Great Planes lead weights on either side of the battery in the back. On the racing surface the truck should be able to pull a wheelie if you snatch the throttle. Shift weight back or add to the rear until it does.

Also consider dropping to 6 or even 5 cells. To quote Dr. Ferry Porsche: "To go fast, just add lightness". Dropping cells will allow you to position the weight where it needs to be while still having a very fast truck. You will using the battery's energy in the form of amps more than volts (kinda, sorta).

I believe the quote was from Paddy Hopkirk:

"Simplicate, simplicate, simplicate, and then add more lightness..."
