DS and NDS bodies?
DS and NDS bodies?
Is the DS and the NDS bodies the same size? I have a NIP #6141 Nitro Super Truck and don't want to open it and find that it's to long or doesn't fit the the DS.
Thanks

Re: DS and NDS bodies?
I have a DS snd a NDS and they have the same wheelbase, I actually had to shorten my DS to fit the HPI body, I would hold out and make sure other share my opinion lol, Im pretty sure they are the same.

Yes, they are the same (sounds like you got your answer, but wanted to confirm).
I am not here cause I am playing photographer and on my mountain bike.

Re: DS and NDS bodies?
I just bought a HPI #7494 1968 Chevrolet Camaro body and put it over my stock DS and it looks like the wheel base is pretty close as is with the rear hubs all the way forward. It is kind of tight width-wise with the stock DS wheels and tires. I am about to experiment with 0mm, 3mm, and 6mm offset 26mm rims, once I convert the front end over to Associated hex parts.

Re: DS and NDS bodies?
This one slid past me lol, I moved the rear mounts to the short option, then used upset steering blocks up front (I think B4 with a little trimming).Noumenon wrote:What did you do to shorten your DS?nvxwax wrote:I have a DS snd a NDS and they have the same wheelbase, I actually had to shorten my DS to fit the HPI body, I would hold out and make sure other share my opinion lol, Im pretty sure they are the same.

Re: DS and NDS bodies?
I'm going to buy some paint this weekend and I'll have some pics soon.Lowgear wrote:I'd like to see pictures of that body once you get it fitted. I have a DS project and a 68 Camaro body might be just what it needs.
I used SC10 hex conversion steering blocks, per Johnny, with the GT2 caster blocks which go together very nicely with no modifications. I do have to drill the caster block to fit the A-arm because the A-arm has 1/8" hinge pins and the GT2 uses the same smaller king pins that the B4 uses. I think I'll keep the B4 king pins for the steering because I can upgrade those to titanium if I want even though they are not as thick AND I need to buy some Associated #9645 Button Head Screws 2-56x1/8" to hold the pins in the caster block. I believe johnny drilled his SC10 steering blocks and GT2 caster blocks to use the stock RC10ds 1/8" hinge pins.nvxwax wrote:This one slid past me lol, I moved the rear mounts to the short option, then used upset steering blocks up front (I think B4 with a little trimming).Noumenon wrote:What did you do to shorten your DS?nvxwax wrote:I have a DS snd a NDS and they have the same wheelbase, I actually had to shorten my DS to fit the HPI body, I would hold out and make sure other share my opinion lol, Im pretty sure they are the same.

I bought the HPI Superstar Wheel conversion but I didn't need it as I was able to use the hex set that you need for the front axles for the SC10 that comes with rear wider hexes that fit the RC10DS rear axles without drilling. Which leads me to think that the HPI solution is outdated since guys like johnny have figured a way to use readily available Associated parts instead of off brand stuff.
With the stuff all installed on the right and sitting loosely(B4 king pin in 1/8" A-arm) it looks like the SC10/GT2 front end parts make the front wheel move back a little compared to stock wheel base that I have installed on the other side. I didn't flip the steering block and it is installed the way it would be stock but I will flip them and see what happens.
It also seems that I can use 31mm vintage 6mm offset rear wheels if I wanted since there is space in the Camaro body, which is 210mm wide at the rear, I believe, with the 6mm offset 26mm rims I currently have. The fronts I installed 0mm offset 26mm rims. I still need to pick some 31mm vintage 6mm offsets up but I'd like to use some better rubber than D compound for zipping up and down the street and use regular touring car rims and slicks. Perhaps a regular 200mm touring car body would be a better fit with these 26mm rims but this body is so awesome because its just like the Racing Mod 69 Camaro in Gran Turismo 5, which happens to look more like a 68 or 67 Camaro than a 69.
