O/T but I have one of those front shock mounts in my parts bin ready for a Cougar build when I have everything else I need. Obviously it's aftermarket - any idea who made it?CAT3K wrote:

Re: Topcat restoration
Well the Topcat is nearly finished now
The wheels polished up a treat.
It was raining earlier today (it rarely ends actually) and during a brief bright spell i took some photos outside on the patio.

Now the final decision.. do i paint it up? It looks so shiney with a clear shell.
Paul.

Re: Topcat restoration
That is a thing of beauty! Well done. I see the wheels came out great! I was going to suggest putting the damaged edge flat on a belt sander. How did you manage to clean them up?

Re: Topcat restoration
I managed to resist my dremel fetish and sanded them by hand with wet and dry. It's not perfect but barely noticable. I considered sending them away to a 1:1 wheel restorer to get them shot blasted, but i think the aluminum used in the wheels would be way to soft for that.RedScampi wrote:That is a thing of beauty! Re: Topcat restoration
Mmmmm - all that shiney aluminium
- that Trinity Monster Horsepower is the perfect motor for this build, inspired choice for sure!
With regard to the shell - perhaps buy another one to paint so you can swap between clear & 'painted' depending on your mood.... personally I'd love to see it all painted up!
Great job!!!

The Topcat was around in 89 and they raced with 1700SCE's back then at the worlds. I think the SCRC's came out a year or so later? I figured the black cells would go better with the polished alloy and black componants.

Re: Topcat restoration
Thanks guys
I am thinking of fitting full electics, but finding cells in good condition has not been easy so far. I have a Futaba S9401 coreless servo to fit which is period as i used in in 1990
I also have a Tekin 411P2 esc but i think these were about 1993? so a bit out.
As for the shell i had thought the same thing Dan
The clear one on the buggy is repro, but i'd really like an original to paint and sticker up with my original decals. It might sound a bit wierd, but i feel bad about fitting original decals to a repro shell
