Post by scr8p »

ok, i'm done buying chassis' now. this was the last one on my "wants" list. i need to start finishing the ones i already got, instead of buying more.

so, anyway. this one's just gonna be a nice little edm or late model. most likely an edm.

That looks pretty cool. I don't think I've seen one of those, but I'm not all that up on dirt oval. There is something about those EDMs that is pretty cool though. Look forward to seeing it take shape.

I know what you mean about having a lot of chassis, but not getting them done. I seem to be in that situation right now myself. But that means lots of building fun, right?

Fantastic score. That's one of those original LTO chassis. Awesome.

I'm jealous. :D

What is "EDM"?

I wonder how that would look if you used a combo of Dual Sport and original, black, RC10 parts. Such as the lower DS shock towers and shocks with the wider arms, or even short DS arms on the inside, haha (did they do that in dirt oval)?

Perhaps I am talking pure nonsense.
Bought my first RC10 in 1989

EDM = Eastern Dirt Modified

It's a type of dirt oval car, like a sprint car, raced mostly on the east coast.

There have been some who have tried suspension offset cars, but the issues are linkage lengths, and rear arm length/CVD length. Because these cars are 4-wheel independent suspension, you have some geometry issues. They can be made to work, though. Short early RC10 arms on the inside and long late arms on the outside in the front, will certainly give you a nice offset, but shock angles and linkage angles will be very difficult to get a handle on. It's tough to get a square car with parts that are available out there, but the ideas have been tried.

IMO, too much offset makes a car hard to drive, especially if you need to make right turns for countersteering or evasive traffic maneuvers. I like some weight offset, but not a gross amount. You can do most of what you need with battery placement.

well, i finally started throwing some parts on this chassis since i was kinda bored.

c.c. shock towers (rear cut down 5/8")
houge steering bellcrank
raborn sliders and a-arms
losi carriers
1.96 rpm trans
irs aluminum outdrives
rpm rear oval body mount

i'm pretty sure the outdrives were made by irs. i've had them for quite some time and don't remember any more.

i like how my original post in this thread from feb., i said this would be the last chassis i bought. boy, that was a freakin' joke.

Hey J, you gonna run it? I remember a while back you said you were gonna start racing again.

i won't run this one. i'll save it for nice. i still have my old raborn edm to use if i'm feeling "ol' skool". :)

i did get to the track a couple times this year, but that was about it. i got too busy building the "real" old cars with my dad to get there every week. i'm gonna try again next summer. maybe i'll get to an indoor dirt oval race or two during the winter. we'll see. i definately need to upgrade my battery/charger situation first, though.

i do plan on taking the ascot sprinter i got from tulsa out to the track couple times when i'm done with it. that should be fun. :D

Understand about the time thing. Work,a home, and two boys who play baseball 9 months out of the year takes a lot of time! A good friend has a clay oval in his backyard that we play on when we get the chance. And most of what we run is older stuff. Seems to keep the fun factor higher. Except when one of my buds pulls out his old Dominator. Then we spend all night trying to catch him and spin him out on the straightaways, because he will KILL you through the corners!
