FNG looking for advice
Hey all,
Im a new guy here an have been reading up on the "First 25 years of RC10" and there is a wealth of info here. I'm new to this and I am interested in collecting, restoring vintage rc cars, maybe some trucks and run some that aren't worth restoring. I guess my question is, whats a good next step?
Thanks for any info!!
Jim

Re: FNG looking for advice
FNG isn't a new term...we use it at my work too. We have a couple old guys at my work who just got hired, we call them FNOG (pronounced fuah-nog) *Flipin* New Old Guy!

Re: FNG looking for advice
If you are new to RC then you will also need to decide what vintage cars appeal to you. The RC10 was the coolest of all...in my opinion. JRX2 (Losi) was another cool one. Maybe try an Ebay search for "Vintage" in the car and truck category. Manufacturers were Tamiya, Kyosho, Losi and Associated Electronics (aka Team Associated). It does get pricey though...be forewarned.
EDIT: One guy one here (Eau Rouge I think) has all of the old RC Car Action magazine available for download so you can read them and find some cool vintage cars too.

The later graphite rc10 (stealth transmission) has become the fav in my collection FWIW

It doesn't matter where you start, you'll end up wanting one of everything... it's a disease. I'd find something affordable and NOT perfect.. find something that you can actually drive and enjoy a bit while you are deciding what you want sitting on the shelf.

Re: FNG looking for advice
You might try Craigslist as a more local source of projects as well (unless you're in Portland, Oregon, in which case stay away; they're all mine! Hahahahaaaa!). I've gotten some good scores from folks cleaning out their garages, who have no idea that there is even a collector's market for these things. Sometimes you get lucky.

+Set up an 'off-shore' account for your vintage RC habit.Blackangelofdeath wrote:...... I guess my question is, whats a good next step?....
+For me, the next thing that I did was pick a build that I liked and start replicating it and make a few changes to suit your preferences.
+Enjoy the building and running of the vintage RC.
