Re: - The mystery cardboard boxes -
Ok but let's first start with some background history, shall we? When I was busy with restoring my Yokomo Works '93 with COMCOM tub, DerbyDan posted this front cover of an '99 FL catalogue:
And it all started from there: I was at that very moment exchanging emails with Stephen at FL about YZ10 parts and I mentioned this catalogue to him, asking questions about the cars on the cover and trying to get a full copy of the entire catalogue. A few emails later, I was told that 2 of these cars were still at FL, the RC10 being in Joe's possession (Martin's brother) and the Traxxas Rad belonging to Martin. Then it happened that both cars were for sale actually and after a good offer and some talks, they were both shipped to me. Needless to say I was totally stocked, especially with the RC10 that was apparently featured in a Model Cars magazine at the time (a virgin sticker sheet is included in the RC10 box). I would love to find the article, please help if you can!
Both cars are one-offs and most of the parts were never released to the public. I was also told that some of the profiled wings were sold but they were so time-consuming they had to stop the production very early. Both cars have been run but most of teh carbon parts still look like new besides some small scratches here and there.
The RC10 has very special parts indeed: custom bi-level molded carbon wing, custom top deck, custom rear shock tower (based on the RC10-T design) and a nice carbon rear body/chip mount to boost. Note that the chassis is slightly different from the ones that were produced BITD as if features a slight step on the rear below the motor plate, probably to help bending the rear portion. I also noticed the "ears" that allow bolting the rear bulkhead are flush with the latter, which was no more the case on the production tubs. The car needs a good cleaning and some parts need to be replaced. Now the 10,000$ question: should I just clean and replace some used parts or go the pimp/hop-up route? It will be hard not to add Tecnacraft turnbuckles and black MIP shocks only to name a few...
The Traxxas Rad looks cool, but is no way getting close to the RC10 (really? ). I mainly bought it for the wing I must admit.
So let's start with some pictures of the Custom Carbon Works RC10:

Keep them as is! I mean, clean up and maybe replace, restore to how they're have been back in the day, including any modifications to stock parts.Asso_man! wrote:Now the 10,000$ question: should I just clean and replace some used parts or go the pimp/hop-up route? They're one-off factory cars, more or less, you need to keep them original.
And they're gorgeous.

Lets see some rad pics too! The tub on the rc10 looks awesome, I remember the carbon tub but never seen the top "brace?"

Yes the top brace here is a one-off as well as the wing. They were possibly produced to a very limited number.gomachv wrote:Lets see some rad pics too! The tub on the rc10 looks awesome, I remember the carbon tub but never seen the top "brace?"
Thank you for all the nice comments guys, this is definitely a keeper and I plan to leave it as is, just a complete tore down will happen.
Today I also took some pictures of the goodies that came with the RC10 as well as of the Traxxas Rad.

The sides on the radicator look added, were they not molded as part of the chassis?

Nope this one is not a molded tub, it has instead some L-shaped sections glued on the chassis as reinforcements.gomachv wrote:The sides on the radicator look added, were they not molded as part of the chassis?

Re: - FIBRE-LYTE Carbon Works Prototype RC10 -
Simply awsome that you now have these cars in your posession!
When I first started chatting to Stephen & then to Martin (which led to the e'mail with the Brochure Image attached) I wouldn't have dreamt that they still had any of the old prototype cars - or if they did, that they'd consider letting them go!
The RC10 is especially cool with that 'lid' over the front of the chassis - I wonder how it drove compared to a standard car?? Nice collection of extra parts too, the nose peices are real nice - but I especialy like the Demon motor, these were de-rigure for your CAT or RC10 in the UK in the late 80s - would like to get one for my recently aquired TopCat

Re: - FIBRE-LYTE Carbon Works Prototype RC10 -
I actually have one of these carbon tubs on my RC10T/T2/TRX hybrid
I bought it as a roller with a buggy and truck nose
Truck nose were de-laminated and I cut the buggy nose to accept a TRX bulkhead
