Back in 77 I rode a nickle finish Redline, transitional bike that had the square back front half (gusset) and the tube MX-II rear, sort of a transitional bike. Tuff wheels, Astabula crank, V-Bars, Tuff Neck. Raced a white Proline in 78, Dura-ace crankset, Cook Brothers hubs, etc.

Just recently picked up this 81? Diamondback survivor

I went to my first retro bike show last weekend and some of my Freestyle buddies thought I should enter my Kuwahara alongside their bikes. I built this bike as a 'rider' so was unprepared for the day. Still in it went and got more than a few looks

Afterwards there was a ride that took in the foreshore. Great day out :D

I'm a trials man myself, here's how my bike currently looks (almost) the only difference is I now have silver crank bolts instead of orange.
The frame itself is a relatively lowish budget one but the rest of the spec is high end lightweight compy type stuff mainly as I have nothing better to do with my money.

Not vintage, but still nice. Going to try bmx at the local track. Took my son there last weekend for practice and he loved it. On the way home stopped at the lbs and picked up a bike for me so I can go out for practice with him. Should be fun.

His is a 2007 flight micro-mini that I picked up used a couple years ago for his older sister to ride. Kids bikes are so heavy, I wanted her to have something nice and lightweight for bombing around the neighborhood. I put a couple upgrades on it and got it down to 11.5 pounds.

Mine is a 2010 flight pro xxl, totally stock for now (only flight they had in the shop, probably should have a pro or xl, but they all feel so tiny compared to my mountainbikes, that I didn't think the extra .5" would make a difference either way)

We use to ride our bikes over and sneak into this track when we were young. They usually left the fence unlocked. If they caught us they would just tell us to get out. No real trouble. It's a pretty nice set-up.

I don't know if this was mentioned before but like a great many of us here, I love vintage BMX! Well while scouring the internet for some upcoming Bmx shows I ran across this site: http://www.oldschoolmags.com/index.html

Now just like vintage R/C who doesn't enjoy thumbing or screening through some of the old issues and remembering all the great stuff that used to be available. All you have to do is click on a particular magazine title and all the scanned issues will pop up for you to enjoy or download for future reference :D

Enjoy,
Dave

Looks like a 1976 race inc, very nice find. Maxy cross cranks looks all original. Its always worth what someone will pay and that could be worth a lot.

Here is a link that will help determine exactly what year and what components.

That's a very nice find indeed sir! Check out some of the mags in the link above, the issues go as far back as 1976-77.

Reg, that's the kind of thing people dream of finding at a flea market. Did you buy it?

SofaKing, and all you other Cali dudes, you've got to go to the BMXSociety Reunion and Show on June 2nd. It is the biggest, bestest, baddest BMX show in the world, bar none. There's tons of incredible bikes, old school riders show up, and this year there is a JMC reunion and most of the team is planning to attend. I thought I might be able to fly out for it this year, but things are a little up in the air for me right now so I can't make it. Here's some details:

I would like to invite you all to a very special BMX party!
This year, our annual Old School BMX Reunion & Show will take place on June 2nd, 2012.

Please come. It is worth traveling great distances to attend. You will meet friends old and new, you can rub elbows with the legends of the sport from the early days, and the stars of modern BMX.

The venue is Whittier Narrows BMX. The track is located within a regional park called, Whittier Narrows.

Time:
June 2nd
9am to 4pm

Location:
Whittier Narrows BMX
1601 N. Rosemead Blvd.
South El Monte, CA

DIRECTIONS TO THE TRACK:
Whittier Narrows BMX is located inside the Whittier Narrows Recreation Area in South El Monte, approximately 12 miles east of Los Angeles. To find the track, take Rosemead Blvd. south from the San Bernardino freeway (10) or north from the Pomona freeway (60) to the Whittier Narrows Park Main entrance on the west side. (When entering the park, turn right at the first stop sign, then follow the road as it circles the soccer fields to a second stop sign. Turn left (south) and the track will be on the right.

The day's events will include:

Old School Bike Show with multiple classes and awards for each
Sidehack Racing brought to you by Impakt sidehacks!
Old School Races (you have to ride a bike from the 70's or 80's)
Legends of Freestyle Show
Bunny Hop Contest brought to you by Oakley
JMC Racing 35 Year Anniversary Reunion

More to be announced....

Registration Packages required for bike show prize eligibility, t-shirt and poster, etc will go on sale May 1st.

Yup, I just recently stumbled upon a series of links that led me to that site. I haven't been to it before but all the footage from the prior years look awesome. I'm definitely going to try and make it out next Saturday!
