"I can't believe I did that"

lets face it, it seems like the majority of us are 80's kids, young, pre-teen R/C fanatics / RC10 enthusiasts that just might have done some things that today, we' probably say "i can't believe i did that". Well, since this is a rc10 forum, ill keep this RC10 related, otherwise I can go on for days .
since it looks like there are so many users that have the same story; "I pulled my rc10 out of my parents attic and...". well, so did i, and i went through part after part and car after car that i havent seen in two decades.

enough with the blah, blah (sorry ). what im trying to get to, i found my old MIP transmission i was looking for, to add to my build. only to say, "what the heck? i cant believe i did that". i must have driven a longer screw into it than needed and ripped through the side of the plastic . there goes the "nice" factor for that . wel, im not one to be embarrassed. are you? is there anything you found and said the same thing? probably something you'd never do being older and wiser?

please share. i hope is not only me

BTW, if anybody has any idea on a fix, other than find a case, id really appreciate any help.

Soldering iron an some of the same style plastic like that.Gently melt some plastic to the spot enuff to sand down smooth and flush.

Or file some plastic shaving off black plastic and then mix with ca.and apply to that spot smooth it let dry.

Yes, that I sold everything in my early 20's, never having the possibility of digging it out of the attic and writing one of these stories.

Maybe this trans had a Tork-thrust top gear slipper and the hole on this side of the trans is there to adjust the slipper. My Mom, sisters and family all got together and had a garage sale about ehhh 20 or so years ago... I put my AYK 566B (My first r/c car) up for sale in that garage sale in which I think I got $40 for... I wish i had just left it in the attic,

My two worst were selling an almost new WCM 1/4 scale car at a swap meet for $250. That was the ultimate shelfer to have. And I had a brand new, never driven, delta 1/8 scale car from the mid 80's that was out of date, so I cut up the chassis parts to make things for other cars. All I have left of it are two of the shocks. Then there was the time that my friend and I, poured gas on a bolink invader with all new novak electronics and lit it. It looked cool driving around for a minute but ruined everything in it. ouch.
The worst that I saw, but didn't do, was seeing my friend cut up a yokomo with all of the delta parts, so that he could build a custom dirt oval car out of it. He cut the gearbox in half and used a front bulkhead and suspension on the rear of the car with 2 chains. It might have worked ok, but neither of us even owned a modified motor or a 7 cell battery, so that car just got thrown away. It was kind of cool to look back and know that he did all of that custom work to it without a dremel tool or anything. Just a black and decker drill and a hacksaw.
My disclaimer for all of those crazy acts- we had no idea that ebay would be here one day. None of those cars were worth anything after they were outdated.

Things I can't beleive I did

1. Removing and throwing out many stock parts to add junk aftermarket parts from performance centers of america bitd on one of my Firebird's along with Cutting massive speaker holes in the door panels, rear deck and into a mint 4 speed console .

2.Trading a set of gold honeycomb wheels from a '76 se trans am for a set of cragar ss wheels that are only good for hose hangers on your garage wall.

3. Leaving a 400 ram air III wrapped with a tarp outside for 15 years only to find it's only good for a boat anchor now.

4. Selling hundreds of rare Pontiac and Camaro parts at Englishtown swap meet simply for beer money and fun. Firebird parts were everywhere at that time. Now your lucky to find a ashtray or window crank

5. Turning down a '70 GTO judge at Carlisle for $1000 due to a bitchy girlfreind at the time yapping in my ear about owning 2 many cars. Bitch

Taking parts from one car to be used in another. This resulted in most of my collection when I was young with missing parts.

Today I try not to borrow anything from other cars. If I need something I will buy it.

Although, I might loan the good steering servo from the b4 to my sc10 for a big race in a couple weeks. ..


As for 1:1 vehicles, I wish I never sold my first 1982 CJ7.

As I'm trying to get my old car running again I am wishing I had not made some of the mods to run carpet oval when I was a kid. I lost the servo saver, rear body mount, front support tubes, some shock springs, and ground the tub so that I can no longer mout those lost front support bars. Now that I have most of what I need to get it running right againg I will have to find out some other ways to "mod" this so it works right.
