This bugs me...calling toy cars "rides"

Post by Coelacanth »

Okay, it's a slow day today and I wanted to say something that's been irking me for a while.

Why do people refer to RC cars as their "rides"?? You can't ride on the things! I can imagine you calling your car or truck, your motorcycle, or even your moped your "ride", but a toy car?!

Similarly, on a drum forum I used to frequent, a lot of drummers referred to their cymbals as "pies". Pies don't look like cymbals other than having a vaguely round shape, cymbals don't sound like pies, and certainly don't taste like pies! Maybe "pie plates" might make at least a little sense, but "pies"??

Discuss amongst yourselves. :)

Sounds like someone has seen too many RC bodies with too many painting techniques used today and is feeling a little grouchy.

One term in the automotive world that has now become overused is "clean."

We need a standing ovation smiley, "rides" bugs me anyway, but when talking rc cars it makes steam come out of my ears.

A coworker of mine calls them dinky cars
Is he British and or older?
Do you think he might be referencing the original Dinky Toys?

My mother used to get so irate when my sister & I would say 'dinky'. When this cereal came out, my mother almost died:

As far as RC cars, I haven't heard people calling them 'rides'. It does sound a bit ridiculous.
The preceding contained opinions, beliefs and thoughts that all may not agree with. No offense was intended at any point. Carry on.

Didn't they make a powdered version of Dinky Donuts? I think it was out about the same time as Waffelos. I say that because my sister and I use to get into huge arguments in the cereal aisle and my mom would have to break us up. To this day there is a still a cold war between my sister and I over cereal. Whenever we're together and breakfast is mentioned ice cold glances are exchanged. Wounds as old as time itself are ripped open spilling the heartache and turmoil that boils within our souls. Our brains dizzy with emotions as we try to maintain our composure and conceal our long brewed hatred for one another...

Oh, but anyway, wasn't there a powdered version? :D

LOL @ the Dinky Donuts! I'm not sure I'd want to put those in my mouth, though...

And you've never seen someone say "nice ride" in response to a post about an RC car, or post "here's my latest ride"? I see it all over the place, including here! I posted a picture of CYANide yesterday on RCTech and someone just replied to it today saying "nice ride"! I had to resist the urge to reply that I hadn't ridden it yet, so I couldn't confirm if the ride was nice or not.
