Automotive Gurus......I NEED your help!

Post by mamba max1 »

Well, last Saturday I got hit by a vehicle while riding my moped on the way home from work. It came up from behind me and tried to pass me with minimal effort. As a result, I got wacked by the mirror (and brushed by that car) causing me to go flopping down the road. The idiot left me there lying in the middle of the road unable to walk (with traffic) since I landed on my knee at 35mph to 40mph.

Long story short, I'm fine and the moped is fine (it fell on me haha), but I want to find the idiot who hit me. I know it is a very local vehicle, it could only be from three different neighborhoods. Problem is, I can not identify the mirror that the car left behind. I have called the dealerships, and looked on google extensively. Surely somebody here will recognize these photos!

I could only find one part number on the pieces. It is 4107-15136-01

THANKS!!!!

see if you can find any markings on the little brown connectors. that might help narrow it down.

do you know approx. where you got hit? high or low on the moped or your body? I'd guess is something like a full size car going by the size of the mirror, with a pretty raked profile where it mounts to the body, trucks typically are more upright, and smaller cars don't need such a large mirror.

Looks real close to an 05-09 Mustang and even has the same brown plug:

Sorry, no markings on the plugs. :( The bottom of the mirror is about 36 inches off of the ground. (It has rubber transfer from my handle)

   OMG, that sure looks like it! Now, off to measure the height of a mirror on a mustang.

I did not have to. 8 cops, 1 fire truck, and 1 ambulance were there within 5 minutes.

i really don't think an oem ford mirror would be made in taiwan (could be wrong on that though). so it must've been an aftermarket replacement from the last guy the person hit.

Good luck on your quest to find the hit and run driver.

Three years ago, I was involved in a hit and run. I was T-boned at low speed by a Cadillac Escalade which was leaving a gas station. I stop my car in the roadway, got out to look at the minor damage, looked at the driver (50-60yr old white male) and motioned him to pull into the parking lot to exchange information. I didn't think the driver would flee but as soon as I got into my car, he waited for traffic to part and "Got Out of Dodge" in the other direction. I had five of his six digits for a plate number so I didn't run him down like a crazy man. Found a local cop a mile down the road and figured he'd handle it in minutes. Boy was I wrong. I had to show insurance, ID, license and have background checked. 20 minutes later, I was asked what happened and where the other driver went. At this point, I knew I was scr-wed. Local cops did nothing. State cops refused to get involved unless they got called by the town. The state cop was cool and told me the truth. They could run the mostly complete plate number to get a match; however if they went to the guys house, unless he admitted he did the hit and run, they could do nothing. If questioned about the damage, he could say it was damaged at the grocery store and the state cops would do nothing (Unless i was DOA) as they didn't have the money to match paints.

Moral of my story. Don't move your car until you have taken cell pics of the other driver and license plate number.

Sorry to hear that. :( Fortunately, the middle support piece for me broke in a way that it will match to the vehicle. :)

I hope they find him! I hope no injuries pop up later because of this, sometimes they take a bit of time. I was in a car wreck many years ago and I walked away from it only to be horribly sore a few days later.
