MIP Tranny Question

Can anybody remember or know what year MIP transmissions first came out? I've got an Edinger with one in it and was wondering if it would still be considered "period correct" with that transmission installed. Thanks for any input provided.

I think they came out in 1988 or 1989. I bought mine at R&R hobbies in Quincy, IL during a race at that time. It was probally 1989.

So I'm guessing mine wouldn't be period correct then. You can see the actual car in the gallery under Lexus's Legion and maybe someone could date it for me...thanks in advance.
