sand scorcher shocks

Ok,

so I finally scored enough vintage scorcher parts to build a complete chassis. I have heard several people talk about the original shocks being very prone to leaks, etc.. So my question is this: should I just buy a brand new set of shocks from a re-re? Did Tamiya improve them? or should I do the CRP coil over conversion to the originals? Or should I just rebuild the originals and leave the car as "original " as possible? I am not looking to race this car, I just want to be able to enjoy it.

I have wanted one of these since...oh, I dont know...about 1979...LOL
I finally get to have one, and I just dont want to do anything to it that would take too much away from the original feel of the car...make sense??

Any help will be appreciated.

The shocks on my Re-release leak, so I am not sure they made any changes. I just clean it up after running it, and refill the shocks as needed. They are a blast to drive!!

I've got stock re-re shocks in the front and old school CRP style shocks in the rear on my Scorcher. Works just fine and the stock front shocks don't leak at all.

So, on to business, are your CRP's converted originals? do they leak?
Good to hear the re-re's dont leak..?

Do the coil-overs on the rear help the car at all?

Thanks a lot and yeah they work great. No leaks at all. I tried to use the coil-overs without the torsion bars but they seem to work better with them in. Since this is a heavy buggy, probably need stiffer springs. Cant remember if they are original CRP's or not, I got them off the bay some time ago.

Yup. I'd keep the torsion bars unless you get some stiffer springs for the shocks.

BTW, do you any more pics of your scorcher? love the light blue paint and the yellow lettering on the tires! Would love to see the front skid plate details as well, very nice! You seem to like the scale stuff as I do. very cool.
