Anyone interested in making repro parts or even custom parts should look at Smooth-On products. They've got a wide range of plastics depending on what you want to make. Trust me, they've got one strong enough to make usable rc car parts. I use and love their products. Their website is very informative and has all kinds of videos and tutorials on it. Their products are used in the movie industry, for hobbies, and even many of the custom architectural designs at the Luxor in Las Vegas and other hotels were done with their products. They've got great stuff.

Not sure I would agree with everything you stated. I worked for many years as a professional model builder, and used smooth on products quite a bit. They do have many great products, but I have never found any casting resin (theirs or otherwise) that would make a suitable replacement for our injection molded pieces. Believe me I tried! It is very easy to produce rubber molds from rc parts, but finding a resin with the impact resistance required for most of our parts (functional anyway) has eluded me. There were several that were stiff enough, but none that could handle the abuse. However, I would love to see any new advancements. -Jeff
