Clear non-painted rear spoilers?

I know it's a bit tough to get in the nooks n crannies, but non-painted - am I missing something here?

if you use solid colors it easer to pour some color down in their a little at a time.

haha I know, I sprayed the gold pan spoiler and it was a bit tough so I let some runs fall in there
I guess that's why some people just don't paint them

Kimbrough even has clear hard spoilers. I guess its easier to put stickers on and roll with it that way.

Yeah - tough one.

Modern racing - I generally run them clear - or "rough" them up and make them opaque with some scotch brite pad or similar - then use decals. Only time I paint a wing is if I am going in concourse for that event.

Vintage - generally paint them - however depends on the "look" I am going for.

So why paint a body, even? Call me an old curmudgeon but I still think not painting a wing is mostly due to not wanting to waste the time to do it. I know, I know, some guys here will point out all their reasons why they don't, but I think it's all rationalization.

I didn't paint the wing on my old is new RC-10 because I liked the looked .

As for painting the wing, I use a paint brush to get in the hard to spray areas.

The trick is patience. If you're in a hurry then put it down and do it another day. What I do with the typical lexan rattle can is first do very quick but very close (like 3" or so) passes right over the "nooks" of a wing. Force some paint in there, but not so much that it runs. Do one quick, heavy pass right over the deep spot. Just one. Not two. Then let it dry completely. Repeat, up to 4 or 5 times, which will fill in the nooks very well. Hold the part up to a backlight to see if the paint is good. Once that's dry, then just spray the entire wing with 2 or 3 coats. Done, and perfect. This even goes for some bodies, just did this same method on this IROC body's rear spoiler, same issue where it's a little 'pocket' in the body that's tough to get good coverage in. If you try to just paint it all at once you will over-do the tough to reach parts and get runs, or the opposite, not enough paint where the body bends.

I don't paint my wings on my racer either. I go through several wings by the time I go through one body, so I just can't be bothered. There are not even any nooks and crannies on the wings I use. The best part about the 22 wing, is that it comes pre-cut out! You just have to ream the holes.

Good point Tim, I didn't think of that. Come to think of it in my case, I've already wrecked one wing that I just bought lol

As for the above wing or similar, how do you paint that? It's unlike the other older type wings where you just paint the underside as how huminski described. If you paint the underside of that one, the outer side parts of the wing looks crappy.
If you mask out the side/paint the underside and then mask the top to paint the top inside of the sides it looks like crap also.
Maybe there's a trick or maybe just leave the sides un-painted and use vinyls? haha I don't know.
