New RC10 owner

Well sort of new, it was given to me by my brother-in-law 3 years ago, after sitting in a box in his garage for 20 years. I didn't have any interest in it, so it sat on a shelf in my basement until now. From what I can tell, it's the Cadillac version with steering upgrades from around 1989. I'm getting too old for RC helis; my patience for rebuilding them all the time is getting very thin, so I thought I'd see if I could get that RC10 to work. As it turns out, it didn't need much. The old Futaba transmitter still works after replacing the battery holder, adding a new antenna and doing a little soldering. The RC10 just needed a good nimh battery, new speed control and some wiring, along with a general clean up. It could use some new front tires, but I haven't found any yet. I've ordered a new original body and wing for it.

So, now I'm kind of wondering what to do next. I've added an LRP AI Quantum Runner ESC and a 3000 mah 7.2v nimh battery. It's not very fast and doesn't go through much. I have a 3600 mah 8.4v nimh battery taken from a Traxxas Stampede I was thinking of trying, but I don't think that's going to yield any drastic improvements. I'm thinking of going with a brushless conversion and lipos. I'm open to suggestions, though.

Brushless and Lipo is the way to go in my opinion. Brushless is no maintenance and Lipos last full strength until they are almost done. If you want you cant get your RC10 going faster than you can control, but that comes with a learning curve and some melted gears

I just bought a Traxxas Stampede 4 x 4 with lipos and I'd like the RC10 to be able to keep up with it. Brushless and lipos seemed to be the only way. I've had a number of people say to keep it original. But, I figure I can always put the original parts back on if I'm ever so inclined. I even have the old rheostat speed controller, but it doesn't work.
