chasis straightening

Post by wiremonkey73 »

Earlier today my car glitched and went wide open into a curb and bent the nose pretty good and bent the front of the chasis pan up. Whats the best method for taking the bends out with simple hand tools and a vice? I got the peices I need to fix the broken peices just not the bent peices. It was my last good nose peice I have had for 15 years sittin in a box. :( What do you do?

I had the exact same thing happen except mine went nose first into a concret light pole. Bent the left front of the nose up as well as the left brace tube. I pulled the front end apart and used a vice and a large pair of channel locks to get the nose back in shape. I had an old graphite nose lying around so I held it up to the metal one and kept massaging it until they matched. It worked perfectly. The nose tube was slowly bent into shape using a vice. I'd clamp it down then rotate it and clamp it down again going around a few times. It's as straight as it's going to get and good enough not to be noticable. I didn't bend the chassis fortunately.

I ended up getting tired of the glitchiness and went 2.4. It's the best thing I've ever done to the car. Everything about it drives better. Forget nostalgia. You won't regret it.

I know what you mean,I changed to a 2.4 a couple years ago to replace the Magnum Jr I had for 20 years.I held out for nostalgia's sake but i'm glad I finally upgraded. It's definitely the way to go.
