Amen!bearrickster wrote:No matter which one you like, neither one would still be here with out the other. I dont think the RC10 would have been the same with out the introduction of Losi to compete with it. and the same for Losi they both pushed each other to be better. and give us all the great cars we love to collect.

^^^ Good analogy.Coelacanth wrote:The RC10 would probably be the 5.0L Mustang--ranging anywhere from '79 to '93 with minor changes.FasterLouder wrote:I was thinking of starting a poll/thread on which automotive manufacturer would be the equivalent RC manufacturer.
Would AE be Ford and Losi GM?![]()
I’ve always been somewhat brand loyal to AE, but have always liked the JRX2 (as of recent I’ve been on a hunt for a nice one to add to the collection). It was a real “game changer” when it was released. I just hope the 22 will inspire Associated to develop a new buggy.

Re: I've tried to like losi, but I just dont really care...
Well the Rally/Street Weapon was not exactly Losi's finest hour! God knows how Dave Spashett managed to get one around a track so fast! As a 4wd buggy it was an awsome chassis but it didn't transfer to an on road chassis very well.
For me I think 'Losi' just pips it for me, the XX is my favourite buggy of all time as it was the car I had the most success with & enjoyed driving the most... I think Losi hit the sweet-spot with this buggy & i'm sure that even today if a top driver campained one, that they would still be competitive.
For me, although I love Associated & the Ali Pan RC10s in particular - you get the feeling that without Losi, AE's products would have developed more slowly. When I first started racing there were few of the American cars being used at my local club (they were mostly Schumachers or Kyoshos) although I can distinctly remember one chap running a 6 gear RC10 - it always looked dependable & fairly quick but also rather cumbersome... then one of my mates turned up after one Xmas with this brand new JRX2 - compared to the RC10 it looked light & nimble - it was so distictive with its graphite chassis & orange 5 spoke wheels, it was finished off with a flourescent orange shell & I was in awe!
I also love the whole Losi 'branding' - it seems much 'cooler' than Associated's - I guess helped by the Skateboarding link?

The RC10 was like the Shelby Cobra Daytona- simple, raw and fast if you were capable. Pure Americana-
the funny thing is that the Losi's were years ahead of the curve! And also American- were way better fitted, better manufacturing etc, but like Ferrari- they still got beaten.

Americana it may be (the RC10) but the commonality of it is surely not equivalent to the Shelby Cobra Daytona. They're everywhere, just like the 5.0L Mustang was in the 80's...not the Shelby Cobra Daytona.Charlie don't surf wrote:The RC10 was like the Shelby Cobra Daytona- simple, raw and fast if you were capable. The 4WD spin-off of the RC10--MAYBE equivalent to the SCD.

I can see the Mustang point, I just meant in functionality and simplicity- and racing.Coelacanth wrote:Americana it may be (the RC10) but the commonality of it is surely not equivalent to the Shelby Cobra Daytona. I think it all depends on where you are it within the hobby if your a racer then both associated and Losi have been proven over the years if you prefer nostalgia or realism then you go for tamiya and kyosho bottom line is all the manufacturers have ther ups and downs only you can determin which is right for you.

Okay, in my abject fear of being banned, I'll amend my 5.0L Mustang analogy with the following, which should appeal more to scr8p's vehicular taste:
RC10's are the Camaros-with-the-350-engines of the RC industry.
