Lonestar's team truck

Post by Lonestar »

Hi guys,

after a while I completed my Team Truck. This is the first RC10 of any kind I restored, so bear with me here as I always have 10 cars in the works, plus at least 3 runners (10th 2wd mod, 10th DTM EP, and 8th OR) to maintain in top shape for proper racing... and two kids... and a full time job... and a 2.5hrs/d commute time... and a wife who still doesn't understand after 12+yrs together that I won't let RC down... and... and... anyway, enough excuses, here's the car

I acquired it about 4yrs back I think, and it been run but gently I would say. It was in good shape but a bit of a hack job with mismatched bits'n bobs, some T4 suspension parts  the diff was shot, there were at least 3 or 4 sorts of turnbuckles on it, you get the idea. Nothing too original, but I tried to build this for proper competitive vintage racing or even modern one, but in the end it looked a bit too good and had required a bit too much money and work to complete to top-nothc shape (everything has been rebuilt to racing standards, I know my RC maintenance book...), so off to the display shelf it went.

After a proper restoration, here's what I ended up with. The only parts that are grossly wrong are traxxas shock collars (easily visible in the front) and wrong front springs. The rear wheels are a bit yellowish too, I had new front ones laying around, I was kindly offered some new rear ones by some friendly forum members, but even what eventually appeared to be a "fair" price looked a bit indecent to me, a non-hardcore Rc10 "amateur". I added some cool stuff on the car still, like a parma transmission brace, some rpm body mounts, and a couple of other things I probably forget about now. Someone painted the body (which is an original AE shell given to me by a friend in 1995 and that I had kept since!) for me last year, almost box-art but he missed the front red section  ... So not a perfect car by all means, but still, it looks the business to me ;)

So here we go :)

Here's the parma composite brace:

CVD's - barely run it seems, no idea where the original UJ's are:

TBG gear cover - does the job for me ;)

good shape overall!

I don't understand why RC10T's fetch such low prices on the market vs. buggies... but that's all good to me, as I have another very very fine all-white Team Truck in the works too

You've done a great job on that. And I agree with you; I can't understand why trucks don't seem as popular. It's definately one on my list! :)
Do, or do not! There is no 'try'!
RC; Boats, Buggies, Trucks, Bash's, Racing and of course 'VINTAGE'!

Thanks for the kind words :)

Yes, 10T's have something to them that makes them stand out I think. I had the chance to drive a restored one at the track about a year ago and it was handling very "modern", very easy to drive at least. I find the 10T much better "balanced" visually that the buggy counterpart, that alloy chassis doesn't look as disproportionate on a LWB, wide car

Here's a pic with his archrival the LXT ;)
