No, the best thing to do is use the HPI Cuda.

There has been a series racing for a number of years, that is what this javelin body was released for.

Here's mine. I race it in the Vintage Trans Am class. (21.5 + lipo at the track i run I just started running at) I've only had one race day with this set up for VTA, so I still have a few more wrinkles to get out of my setup.
Here was last weeks VTA a-main at NiagaraRC.
Excuse the atrocious video quality... my HD camera died the other day. :(

I just had a gander at the rules, it's almost like my CYANide Optima is ideal for that class! Except for a driver figure & the fact I went with the wider 32mm tires on the fronts instead of the 26mm ones, anyway.

That vid looks like a lot of fun!

From the VTA rules page:
Chassis Specification:
Four Wheel Drive touring car chassis only.
It has to be an onroad 4wd touring car chassis... unfortunatley an offroad conversion wouldn't fly.
The rules are super-strict for this class. (that's what makes it so close/competitive)

It is alot of fun. There's a trophy race this Sunday... I'll try to get more video of VTA racing. (hopefully with a much better camera!

P.S. the driver figure is the lamest addition to the VTA rules. (that and the change to the slower 25.5 motor. Thankfully where I race they stayed with the 21.5) I've never raced anywhere that has actually enforced the driver rule.

In almost all early forms of R/C racing (1/12th and 1/8th), ROAR required a driver in the car. To be made in a vintage R/C forum, that's a really ironically funny comment to me. The whole class is about scale realism and close racing. Seriously, how hard is it to put a driver in the car? :roll: VTA is the anti-touring car, and the same things that makes treaded scale tires and wheels, realistic paint jobs, numbers and pony car bodies that people can actually recognize, make VTA a favorite class just about everywhere in the country.

The 25.5 motor rule is the best thing that happened to this class in a long time. The 21.5 was getting way too close to 17.5 Stock Rubber lap times, and with the spec ESCs now, the 25.5 puts these cars at the speed they were originally supposed to be. Some people think faster cars means better racing, but actually it's the opposite. Faster cars means the faster drivers and better setups will be that much further away from the average cars in the pack, and a LOT further away from people without much skill or experience. Slower cars means better and closer racing every day of the week and twice on Sundays.

The tracks that stayed at the 21.5 motor rule are making a big mistake, IMO. The Nationals in April will be using 25.5 motors, like most tracks today, and the competition will be fierce and close everywhere down the heat list. With Novak's trade-in policy for 21.5 motors, it's crazy for any track to still be running 2009 VTA rules.



HPI has another body on the way for VTA racing, as was raced originally in the class in the late 60s, and should the Javelin sell well for Protoform (uh, Dale won't be able to make them fast enough), Dale has already told me that he plans on other VTA cars from the series. Lots of great things in the pipeline for VTA racers everywhere.

I see your point, and probably should have put 'imo' in front of my comment. With that being said, I couldn't help but notice not one VTA cars posted by members in this thread didn't have a driver figure in it. :)

Many of the people here don't actively race, too. :wink:

The driver rule is not a hard-fast rule, it's a suggestion. It will be mandatory at the Nationals, though.

I sure look that Cougar and hope it's one of the next bodies released. I'd also love a Ford Falcon. Can you tell I root for the underdogs? :)
