Fast way to clean rusty hardware?

Post by greene-r74 »

Is there a good easy cheap fast way? I've been cleaning every individual nut, ball joint and screw by hand with a wire wheel on my dremel. There has to be an easier way.

For parts with surface rust, I usually soak them in CLR for a couple of hours.

You can also use this stuff, which works very well: http://www.evaporust.com/evaporust.html

Of course, you have to do something to treat the bare metal or it will just rust again.

That evapo rust looks like a handy product. I usually coat everytyhing with moo-slick when I'm done.

Hoppe's no.9 Solvent to clean and then a coat of good lube ( I like Remington Wonder Lube ). I use it on all my new and used hardware. Hoppe's no.9 also works on aluminum. I left some aluminum parts in a Simple Green bath for 3 days and all the parts turned black. After a day in the no.9 solvent, they are perfect. You gun guys out there, know this stuff is great
