RC-10 colour match powder coating
HI!... I'm currently doing 4 RC10 gold tub restorations. The tubs are pretty scratched up. Since there are no companies around me that do anodizing, but several powder coating companies, I would like to powder coat them. I prefer P/C'ing over anodizing due to it hides small inperfections in the parts like fine scratches etc.
I went around to the local power coaters and got many colour swatches. Many of them are close (85%) on matching but I want to get them as close as possible to the original colours. I'm doing 3 Cadillac gold tubs and one Edinger gold tub, so there's 2 different gold/copper colours I need to match. I ordered 10 colour swatches from a large powder coating company in the U.S, plus I contacted this company to see if I can send two different colour samples to them to see if they can match it as closely as possible with their existing colours available. I'm waiting on a answer.
Has anyone else here done this? Just curious to see if someone already has a powder skw #.
I'll post SKW #'s and results after I get this done, just in case someone else want to do this as well.
Neal.

HI!... Well the powder coating supplier just e-mailed me back. I'll be mailing out two different colour samples tomorrow. I hope they can match them up around 95%.

Re: RC-10 colour match powder coating
My brother and I have a powdercoating business, and none of the samples or powders we have come close to the gold anodizing. You'll never match ano with off-the-shelf powder 100%...two completely different processes. A custom mix may get you close, though. The companies we deal with usually require a purchase of 50 or 100 lbs. when ordering custom colors.

HI!... Well the company I deal with says they can probably match it 95%. But it has to be done in a two step process with the 1st step being a silver, and the 2ND being a translucent gold/copper. That way it imitates the anodizing. I'll just have to wait and see what they say once they get my samples.

Re: RC-10 colour match powder coating
HI!... Well as you can see from the pics, the RC10's came in several different colours of gold/orange. 3 in my collection.

The 1st batch of colour swatches came in today. They are very close. The camera makes them look like they are off quite a bit, but in person the colour swatches are about 95%. To get close to a anodized look I've been told I have to lay down a silver or aluminum colour base and then spray the translucent colour match over top. I'm still waiting for a few more colour swatches to come in but these are the ones I'm leaning towards so far.

Re: RC-10 colour match powder coating
if you can finish the tub polished or with a consistent brushed finish, you don't need a silver first coat. the metal does the job for you
just coat with the translucent coat, and it will look pretty close to anodizing, but it won't be exact. for sure, it will be unique!

HI!... Well my chassis's will be glass beaded, so I will need to use the aluminum base coat.
