for some reason, GMC guys didn't/don't like the chevy models available, and preferred the GMC styling, even though they were/are closer than the camaro/firebird similarities.

from GM's perspective, they could sell twice as many trucks with very little investment. With the whole GM bankruptcy, and all that crap, people were calling for GM to ditch GMC due to overlap, but they far outsold(profitwise, anyway) pontiac and saturn to the point that they were way better to keep then to ditch.

GMC is the luxury line. They have higher level trim options. No different than any other vehicle line/manufacturer that pushes the same vehicle out under two different names. They're just trying to satisfy different markets.

Hey thanks for the answer. It reminds me a bit of how Tamiya does things. :P

been busy in the garage. the 68 hurst olds we're building, we're trying to have it done by the end of the year. it's a tall order, but we might be able to do it.

the frame is all complete. sandblasted and painted, along with all of the suspension parts, and the rear. all new bushings, nuts and bolts, brake and fuel lines, etc etc. the owner should be dropping the engine and trans off this weekend so we can put it in the frame before we set the body back on.

i finally started to lay some paint on this thing. spent pretty much all last week getting the body prepped. sprayed it last friday, sanded/polished it on saturday. prepped the doors on sunday, painted them on monday, sanded/polished them on tuesday. hopefully, i'll get the front end sheetmetal done late next week.

once everything is silver, i have to get all of the black stripes painted on it..... along with the trunk lid. i have to get the top of the cowl, dash, and the inside of the trunk painted yet, too. but that'll go quick since it's just lacquer.

for those that have never seen a hurst olds, this is what the stripes look like (original prototype pics from 68):

here a shot of the chassis. yesterday we got the enging and trans back in it, and today, set the body back on. forgot to take my camera with me for a shot of the momentous occassion.

monday, we have a professional pin striper coming to lay out the white stripe along the black. they have to be done freehand, just like they were done in 68. there's no way in hell i'd have a steady enough hand to do it.

That car would be awesome with some Chrysler "real artificial" wood grain panels on the fenders doors and quarters-

nah, we'll work on anything. it's just that this guy seems to have a hot nut for the 68 cutlass right now. until it's all said and done, we'll have done 5 in a row. an f-85, a 442, this hurst, then 2 more 442's. a couple weeks ago he bought a 68 charger for us to do, as well as 58 chevy sedan delivery. he also has a 64 442 that's gonna get to at some point in time, too.

Holy canola oil! That guy must have some seriously deep pockets to afford all those cars to be restored by you and your dad.

very deep. trust me on that.

beyond the complete restorations, and minor work to his other old cars, he's bought atleast 8 new cars this year. i don't mean hyundai's and kia's. bmw m6, porsche boxter spyder, srt8 challenger, some kind of mercedes (can't remember the model), and a gmc duramax pickup........ just off the top of my head.

ya, it's gonna be hard finding parts for it, too. he bought it off of mothers polishes. i guess it was gonna be another one of their showcars. they started doing some work to it, but ended up going with a 59 instead (click link). all it is right now is a primered body on a frame. so, a donor car is gonna be needed when the time comes.
