neighbour killed my boomerang ! The resurrection

Hello Tamiya - experts,

I bought an Boomerang a while ago in ebay. Its an original back from the 80's . Seems to me I'm out of luck forever with this car.
My first one was stolen and now my " new " boomerang is distroyed while the first testdrive. My neighbour knocked the Boomerang down by his 1:1 car.
But, what a pleasant surprise ! The only part which looks irreparable is the chassis !! My neighbour hit the car exactly in the middle.
Now my question to you. Is it possible to use a chassis from a re-release ? Are there generally differences between the new and the old boomerang ??

Everything between the old and new cars can be intermixed with exception of the center driveshaft and the cups for it. The older one used a wire driveshaft, while the newer uses an aluminum shaft, dogbone style. All the plastic is the same.

thank you very much. Very good news for me. There are a few sellers particular in the US with really low prices for boomerang parts.
I wonder why it is so difficult to get re-released Tamiya parts in Europe. Not only for the boomerang. The full range re-released stuff is awful hard to find. There should be millions guys like me who make a new start with their 80's hobby

The resurrection is making great progress with. Now I have to think about the details. My Boomerang will be converted to 4 damper. Can anyone recommend good, affordable, yet beautiful shocks ? I think about 70mm front and 90mm rear. Thanks for suggestions

I would suggest the Tamiya DF03 shocks or the 501 aeration shocks.

DF03 comes with bladder, which make them easier to build even though they are not as tune-able as those aeration shocks.

the DF03 shocks are certainly a good idea. To give you a better idea of my project, I should probably show you the status.
I am a little nervous because here in the forum are so many great projects. But I think every project is a good project.


how it all began


As I wrote at the time, I wanted to save my boomerang with new parts.
But then I decided to build something unique. A chassis without the negative parts of the original. Better steering and improved front suspension.

Then I thought about how I could fix the rear gear on a base plate. This is my solution.

What steering would fit ?
After many, many attempts. TA05 ( Upside down ) is the right thing!

Then the question is how should I attach the front gear housing and bumper? 2mm aluminum angle, a file and lots of patience!

Now I installed the top plate. I used three bolts from the Kyosho Ultima and two 3mm internally threaded bolts.

Always a very difficult question. how secure the battery? I opted for a homemade Ultima holder.

Next Step. The connection of the upper plate to the rear gearbox. I have spent hours, measure out this part right. Many attempts have ended in the dustbin. But now it finally fits!

Here now some pictures of the current status. I hope my little picture story makes some fun of you. I would be happy to receive suggestions . As I said, I still do not know what shocks and I'm looking also for the right body.

nice job!!!!! way better than the factory, that is for sure......

the only thing I would advise to change is on that small block that fits in the transmission. I would give it at least 2 screws to mount it to the chassis, not just one. this way the trans will have a harder time twisting on the chassis. If three would fit, I would do that.

Nice fabrication. I daresay there's not much Boomerang left in that build....
