To get things back on-tangent...I bought a couple bottles of peroxide today. I'd like to whiten some wheels. Problem is, in Alberta, Canada, we don't get a lot of direct sunlight as we head into autumn. Will just soaking in peroxide alone do the trick, or is there another tip for us obliquely-sunlit Canadians? :)

so I bought some H2O2 and was not afraid to use it. Two one-day treatments with fresh solution at the beginning of each day. Sunny and temp. ~34C, humidity 80%+ for the first day. Overcast, but still bright, on the second. The original ae plastic came out whiter than before treatment...as expected. The surprise was the RPM arms. They turned from a slightly grubby white to yellow. Picture below. Sorry for the rubbish lighting, but you can still see the yellowing. Luckily for me the treatment was really just done for fun and not for a shelf queen. Has anyone encountered this?

No, but earlier in this thread there are cautions against using peroxide on RPM parts because of this. Thanks for the pic, I'll be sure to avoid it!

Interesting, I think the CE I am doing had the white RPM arms, and this did not happen. In fact, they came out very white, and were in the H2O2 for more than 2 days. I'll take pictures tomorrow.

made a new discovery. Not only does Greased lightning take the anodizing off of aluminum, but it also whitens nylon very well. Without sun, without peroxide.

Quick question does it make it any sort of "Brittle"?

Haven't noticed that at all. Will take a closer look tomorrow. Right now just testing on a set of rear wheels.
