Insane DS Build, Recipe for disaster.
I don't know why, I must be out of my mind but Here is the build list for my current Project (pics soon to follow)
RC10 DS:
Full Ball Bearings
RPM Steering
RPM 1:96 Tranny
Slipper eliminator
75 spur, 26 pinion
Venom 11.1v 5400mah 25c 3s lipo
Mamba Max ESC
Mamba 5700kv motor
Id like to thank Charlie don't surf, rc10johnny & GAMMACRUSH for helping me out with the DS parts I needed to complete my runner. I have everything I need except for a good set of foam tires. I tried the rubber tires with my 2s Lipo and they ballooned a lot. I figure the only way around that would be a good set of foams. The reason I'm going so over the top, I was shocked to find very few RC10DS Videos on youtube so... I figured Id make a good one
I'm sure it can only end one way

Re: Insane DS Build, Recipe for disaster.
customworks mounted foams will fit with minor changes to the rear and no changes to the front.
for the rear;
either narrow the customworks wheel, or
use the customworks wheel adapter, or
use the customworks rear hubs.
(i used to race a rc10ds on a dirtoval using customworks mounted foams about 10 years ago.)
if you want to use rubber tires, use the customworks rubber tires/wheels and the wheel adapters.

Ok, no pics yet
I did get a new set of foams thanks to Reggie. I knew I needed a more functional body but I got impatient When I sifted through the remains the attached GPS said 49.6MPH... at only half throttle

Well...It's back to the drawing board

Thats where the GPS was mounted I'm sure I need to lower the suspension a bit and get a body that will sit at or below the bumper line. I kinda knew this before the test run... but like I said, I got impatientbadattitude wrote:Perhaps more weight on the nose LOL

Yet somehow the rear suspension mount still broke...Charlie don't surf wrote: Good rotation in the air though
Re: Insane DS Build, Recipe for disaster.
What body is that? I remember from way back I experimented with some lexan sheets to make as flat a bottom on the dual sport as possible. With so many screw holes I just mounted the full sheet, traced the body out line, cut for wheels and suspension clearance and steering clearance. I was sure car handled better but I never really timed it and lost interest.
On those full size car blow overs, as I recall, the engineering on the flat bottoms was sound except for the fact that they forgot to account for dirty air. (Cars in front already breaking the airstream.) As the cars hit high speeds behind another car, and dealing with road undulation as well as gradient the flat bottom acted like a spoiler going in the wrong direction when air got underneath. I think thats why the cars have air channels underneath now. Can any of you engineering types confirm or correct?

Re: Insane DS Build, Recipe for disaster.
They do have channeling if the rules allow it, but the channeling is all part of an overall aero package that creates low pressure under the car therefore pushing the car down to the track to improve the traction. The channels are used to speed up the air and re-direct it to the desired locations ie- rear diffuser, by speeding up the air underneath the car or at least in relation to the air passing over the top of the car you are effectively sucking the car closer to the track.

Re: Insane DS Build, Recipe for disaster.
It's either the Associated Camaro body or an older HPI Camaro body, I don't know how to tell the difference I was thinking about getting this body: I think that looks pretty aerodynamic, I just need to confirm the dimensions to make sure it will fit the DS properly.lpddpd wrote:What body is that?
