Traxxas Fiero...Where's the love?
Re: Traxxas Fiero...Where's the love?
a friend had a Cox like that around '90. I remember that it had a huge zip tie that you pulled to start it. very simple design.

Re: Traxxas Fiero...Where's the love?
I found an old photo of the Fiero taken somewhere around 1988-1989.
Can't make out much from the photo.
I've got more somewhere showing the car being run around a famous paved oval track in Florida. I'll try to post later.
Yeah,..I know it's "Pepto pink"...but hey, it was the 80's. I painted it to resemble a drag bug that was in Hot VW's Magazine.
In the foreground is my Tamiya Frog that I later sold to finance the Turbo Ultima that replaced it.
I sure miss those CRP wheels the Frog had.
I kept the Ultima. It's in the Kyosho forum now.

Re: Traxxas Fiero...Where's the love?
Does anyone ever run them anymore?
I haven't run mine in years since replacing the original wheels & tires.
How tough are replacement wheels and tires to find?
Does any other make fit the rear hubs?
I remember what a pain it was removing & installing those e-clips on the front axles. I later figured out how to to make tamiya style axles work to eliminate the problem.
The chassis takes RIT dye perfectly w/no problem, I didn't care for the original raw fiberglass*.
*(Of course I never expected any future collectable value for these cars, at the time Traxxas wasn't so well known.)

Re: Traxxas Fiero...Where's the love?
I should probably post a separate thread, but since this car was actually there, I thought I'd add it to this one.
I found some old RC photos the other day. Does anyone remember this place?
That's my Fiero/Parma Bug body with it's late 80's "Local Motion" hot pink paint job. (I don't know what I was thinking..) The Ultima is was my brother-in-law's.
The pics were taken in the winter of 1990.
The body was later replaced with the red one about 2-3 years later.
It was an awesome sight at the time for an RC geek!

Re: Traxxas Fiero...Where's the love?
i love my fieros, got 2, 1 is a perfect restoration with a unpainted nip body as well as a painted body from my first fiero in 98', original radio gear, etc. the other is a restomod beast, swap between a 13x2 and a 22x1 motor, spc lipos, tactic radio, s3003 futaba servo, novak super rooster
ive ot a whole corner of my room devoted to the fiero and about 2/3rds of a car in spare parts, the original manual, and some nip parts.

beauty pic

i got my first fiero used and was the first hobbygrade car i owned (i also got some other cars that were sort of hobby grade) i kept the bodyfrom it but my mom told me to throw it out when we moved from philly to florida since at the time the msc didnt work and i was a newb so was clueless about it. fast foward about 5 years and a lhs had one on the shelf and you be i jumped at that sucker and from then on its been my most prized car, has led to a general fascination with vintage traxxas and am currently looking for a nib one to add to my collection

Re: Traxxas Fiero...Where's the love?

Original body has held up well...(it's spent a few years in the attic)
I have another idea for the chassis...

Re: Traxxas Fiero...Where's the love?
you still in florida? i race oval down in palm beach county (yes we still talk about "the wipp")
i like the idea of flipping the pod around. the 12 single ive got in it now is just stupid.
im thinking of doing something a bit more radical with the mono shock placement on my custom fiero (fiero HE redux project). ive been looking at older 1/10th pan cars a lot lately and i have ideas
i also looking at maybe picking up a single cell lipo or a saddle pack 2s pack, maybe a sxs 6 cell matched nimh pack setup as two 3 cell saddle packs.

I was in the area years ago.
The track was an awesome sight!, (I loved it)..but with the Fiero, it was like driving on ice..
It seemed like even with a stock 540 (at the time) it was a rocket.
I flipped the pod around originally to make the wheelbase fit the Parma bug's body, but discovered it seemed to handle a little better.
I love how simple (and durable) the car's design is.
I'm planning on a possible re-do myself..but, like most of my projects; more show than go..

There are a couple mint examples on eBay at the moment...rhino1 wrote:I have wanted one since I was a kid. I still dont have one
I don't see too many on there very often.
For some reason, any parts that show up are usually priced a little steep..

Mine's been retired for years due to the fact that wheels & tires are tough to find.

Re: Traxxas Fiero...Where's the love?
Yep, was a suck decision when I called up traxxas 2 years ago about something discontinued. The last thing they asked about was if there was anything else they could help me with and I jokingly said "how about some fiero wheels/tires? I had gotten a couple sets a few years ago and would like another set or 2." The guy on the phone said hang on a second and then put me on speakerphone and I could hear him rustling boxes and papers and talkin to another guy when he came back on and said "you want a case or just a set?" Silly me only took another set only to find out a week or so later that no one had been able to find them for awhile so I called back up and no moreDiggley wrote:wheels & tires are tough to find.
