HPI Blitz ESE, the return of light/white chassis & parts

Post by JK Racing »

I know it isnt new news, or truly "white"...but:

I'm liking the truck quite a bit. My RTR Blitz will probably be sold.

How do they sound? My biggest beef with the Traxxas is how loud it is. You also have to really cushion the body to stop the sloppy lexan slap. The Kyoshos are whisper quiet. Nowhere near as tough as the Slash, but all you can hear are the tires on the dirt. Let us know how it performs.

The ESE was certainly on my short list for a new SC along with the forthcoming FTSC10. After looking at all of my options for a race-bred truck, I decided to build an Ultima SC out of an RT5.

I'm anxious to see what you think of the ESE on the track.

I love the ESE, and the HPI trucks are also whisper quiet.

I ran for the first time this past sunday, on a bluegroove outdoor track (hotrod hobbies in Saugus CA). i didnt have the right tires and struggled with too much traction then not enough traction...But the truck performed flawlessly. I have 2 Blitz RTR trucks, one my son drove on the track (doesnt matter if he has traction or not, LOL) the other will be getting sold here locally. The HPI trucks had a great showing at this race, placing on the podium in Intermediate (superstock) and Spec, unlimited is open to both 2wd & 4wd, so that really isnt a fair fight. I didnt drive near as well as I should have, and once I started driving better, I had swapped tires to calm the truck down and went too far. Live and learn.

Love the "option" parts though:
  • Alloy shocks
    Ball Diff
Full bearings (good bearings, not the RTR bearings)
    Titanium turnbuckles
    Titanium top shaft
Revised lightweight slipper plates (i put these on my one of the RTRs also)
    Alloy front bulkhead
    Firmer/Stiffer plastics all around
    Alloy lock nuts
    Fantastic machined motor plate
    U-joint/CVD style rear axle/bones
It really is HPI's version of a FT truck. Kit only, no RTR and almost every upgrade they make.

I run the RTR Blitz with BL setup. Nice and quiet.

My only beef with this truck is the leaky diff (which I fixed), and the soft metal outdrives. They do wear out a little prematurely. Other than that, I can't complain.

The ESE looks like it has everything you'd want. I wish I had the option of getting this truck back when I bought the rtr. Oh well.

I didn't want a RTR kit or electronics, and to upgrade to a ball diff, Vevlet shocks and then buy an unpainted body and my own wheels and tires, the cost was more than an upgrade to the SC RTR kit, and I still wouldn't have all of the bells and whistles. I'm actually doing the conversion to an RB5 SP that I picked up pretty cheap. Shouldn't be much more than the RTR kit and I won't have to pawn off all of the stock electronics, body and tires. ;) Should be pretty trick when it's all done. :)
