Yes, the zip tie work OK. It is an old racers thing. we use to do it back in the day.ChicagoRC10T wrote:Vice, Is that a blue zip tie you used to take backlash out of the servo saver? Does it work well? I've been looking for the best way to do this without using CA glue.... my RC10 CE is my next project...
Great story and build by the way.

Re: New RC10 runner, for my son.
Miguel-
thanks for the vids-- precious stuff.
I was just wondering today, as I drove my 2.2 crawler & chased/played with my 13 month old son (Will), when do we put a radio in his hand?
The R/C's never fail to stop him in his tracks-- he is drawn to them like a magnet-- has been since he was a month or so.
I have buddies with 2 & 3 year olds, but they don't seem to get the concept of R/C, at least as we know it. I'm hoping Will is going to have an edge on the, as he's around R/C all the time.
What's the general consensus as to a good age to put a radio in their hands??

After seeing the videos-- it is either that or a 4 cell nickel battery!a 75T lathe motor

That is an awesome video! I also loved when they both ran into the curb at the same time. It reminds me of my kids.

Re: New RC10 runner, for my son.
Not trying to squat in M-vice's thread, but you asked. My son turned 4 in Feb and I got him an associated RC18MT. The 4wd is nice for learning to drive relatively easily. So far we've broken two front suspension arms (and lost a half shaft in one of those), replaced a motor, an ESC, and broken the servo saver. Also I noticed that one front shock is blown out already and will need a rebuild.Jeep-Power wrote: I have buddies with 2 & 3 year olds, but they don't seem to get the concept of R/C, at least as we know it. Here he is driving my gold pan runner. My comment about the diff is because it was the 2nd day with the Traxxas 550 can stock motor and I wasn't sure how she'd hold up.

Re: New RC10 runner, for my son.
My own kids were about 5 & 7 when I got back into r/c. My niece has been running my Slash since she was about 3 and does OK, but her 5-yr-old brother has always had a knack for them.
To me 4 or 5 is about the youngest they can start to handle them in a 'controlled' manner.
Please note that 'controlled' is a relative term.

Re: New RC10 runner, for my son.
I am with civilguy, my Son got this RC10 when hi turned 3 and he is turning 4 in July but he need practice as we can see.
Las Christmas Santa (MOM) got him this Tyco so he can play with it when ever he wanted “without parent supervision” and he loves it. and it looks like he has the hang of it more or less. I only hate it is not a pistol grip radio. I would get a Tyco stile car WITH PISTOL GRIP to any kid under 4, then later move on to an RC10 .
This video gets funny at the last half, I told him to show me what the car can do .

This other one is what Santa (MOM) got my daughter for Christmas. I had forgotten she had it but when we started to load Ian’s Tyco on the car to go to the park she ran inside and came out with her R/C bike. She is definitely getting a new car this year.
