Making SRB wheels black

Just wondering if anyone has dyed SRB wheels black. I am afraid they might melt since they are plastic and not nylon. I would guess black paint is the other way to go.

ive never tried it, mostly because everyone i have ever talked to or has commented has said plastic doesnt take dye at all.. nylon will, plastic just doesnt.. i have used a plastic spoon to stir dye and it has turned black, or purplish at least... i say try it whatcha got to lose on a junk part.

The plastic Tamiya uses for the wheels won't accept the dye too well

Be sure when you're painting them to not lay on the paint to thick. It gets HARD to fit the screws and bolts together when there is an extra mm or two of thickness...

well, if you had a lathe, you could chuck the wheel and trim the wheel in such a way as to cut the 'meat' of the rim off and save the ring, then slide it on the wheel and glue where necessary.

alternatively, a bit of time with a dremel with a cut...

They will appear black. Under certain light conditions you can see some shading but it's very hard to see.

Real yokomo wheels should be dyeable with no problem.

I've got a guy on another forum that swears there was an uber-rare black 3 piece wheel made for the 10T, but I don't recall ever seeing one, just the one piece wheels. Was there a black 3 piece wheel for the 10T that I've just never seen?

I have a set of B2 or B3 wheels and I tried to dye them black for my Team Car project. I used Rit dye first by the instructions and then again with a stronger dye bath. The first time they went from yellow to brown and the second bath darkened them...

i never have any problems really, i dont use salt, i use 3 boxes of black rit dye with maybe about 3 inches of water, and my parts turn black with above 2-3 minutes no problem once the water gets to tempature

Started with the basic idea of SRB, pretty much keep a tiny bit of SRB and some after market structural geometry. Plenty of custom made, CNC & hand made parts too.

Together also show my out of whack Mugen Bulldog lol ;)

I purchased an air brush some ten years ago for the Testors acrylic model paints. I think I may have used it once since I bought it until the last few months. So far I have painted at least two RC10 bodies and one Stampede body with Parm FastColor...
