Kawasakis were a bit before my time. Those had suspension right? I've seen a few pics of them. You should be able to restore it, there's a surprising amount of information out on the internet about the most obscure bike stuff, trust me I've had to seek out some crazy stuff. Got any pics of the old bike? It's awesome that you still have it after all these years.

I'd love to post a few pictures, but it's in pieces right now. An original seat is impossible to find.

I gues I should say I still have about 85% of it.

I haven't seen too many parts on E-bay.

well, i'll finally add something to this thread.

i've had this bike for 27 years. my parents bought it for me at a flea market in 1982. i rode it for a little while, and ended up breaking the handle bar after a rough landing one day. i had just got a new bike shortly before it happened, so this one went up on top of the garage and it's been there untouched for about 25 years until today.

it's an AMF Roadmaster Hawk 3. i've never seen another one like it. i did a google search for info, and looked around a bit on vintagebmx.com, but came up empty. i have no idea if it actually came with the shocks on the front from new, but they were on it when i got it. sorry for the crappy pics (camera phone).

Damn, you're lucky you didn't end up with a piece of steel tube in your chest or arm. That's crazy. I guess we now know why all but the earliest bmx bikes have cross bars on the handlebars. Pretty cool looking bike. I really dig that triple tree/double clamp stem on top of that fork. I'm guessing that that bike didn't come with that fork. I found one Hawk over on bmxmuseum:

I think AMF might have been sold at department stores, or farm supply and auto stores. I don't think they were high end, but at the same time, I don't think they were POS bikes like the Walgooses of today. Whatever the case, it certainly is not a common bike and it looks pretty sweet.

Here we have a rare Craig Reynolds Super Model, for thoughs of you who raced BMX in the late 80's and early 90's this is a very rare frame. This is a XXL frame.

Currently I have switched to mountain Bikes and ride a Yeti ARC that I like very much.

Ive been looking around to see if i can find what i think may be a very rare vintage freestyle bike.
My good buddy back in the day had a 'KUWAHARA' black freestyle bike with yellow graphix from what i can remember. it seemed pretty cutting edge back around 1987 or so and was the first ride i'd seen with 48 spoke chrome alloy rims back then too. This bike was ultra trick and had lots of 'stand' points on the frame and other cool features.
If anyone knows what i am babbling on about please step in.

Thanks a heap for helping me retrace past memories. This was indeed the bike ive been thinking of and I even caught up with my old school friend about 6 months ago for a beer and he couldn't even remember the name of this bike.
It was very cool and back then it seemed like the coolest thing any of us had ever seen.

Nice turn out dsmith. I really dig that Hutch XL24, nice! That video was a bit disturbing, but I love the parts where he's making fun of hipsters on fixies, I wish the whole song was about that.

i saw a hipster bike messenger on a fixie take a complete faceplant while trying to stay upright and on the pedals while stopped at a light in traffic.

it was by far one of the most amusing things i've ever seen...

Awesome! I've seen them do some stupid things, but never anything as good as a track stand to face plant. Seems like there's millions of them around Brooklyn/Manhattan. I'm pretty sure they all shop at the same store too.

When i was building my flatland freestyle Haro back in my school days I opted for a set of white Peregrine handle bars. These looked very similar to the Haro 4 peice bars of that time but had a 5th bar in the middle. I loved em!
Anybody seen these?

I also remember the 'centre pull' brakes just starting to make a showing on bikes. Some frames had the posts welded to the frame but my old haro was meant for the traditional style brake leavers (these worked terribly by the way). When i could afford it I bought a set of the early Odysey Pitbull centre pull brakes and mounted them on the top side of the lower rear frame and drilled a hole through the bottom seat pole section and ran the Gyro cable down through it to the brakes. They worked well and looked ok too.
