Questions about my RC10

Post by H2oSprayer »

Hey guys, I've been checking out the forum since I started rebuilding my 1986ish "A" stamp RC10 last year. I'm not totally sure on the date, but I know I purchased it new when I was a underclassmen in high school, so that should put it around the 86 era. Most of the parts that I have on the car are from the original kit including the wheels. The reason that I began rebuilding it last year was to use the car as a feeler to see if my son would be interested in getting into the RC hobby. He was quick to pick up on it and it wasn't long before we purchased a new car for him. But now, it looks as our local club will be having a vintage class this year, so I thought I'd continue with the rebuild including new bearings all around. I am a bit confused between the 6 gear and the stealth transmissions and I am wondering which transmission I have. I believe it is the stealth, but I just wanted to make sure. I have included a few pictures, please excuse the dirt as we just finished having it out again. I noticed that the back end became very hot to the touch so I believe I may have the wrong spur / pinion gearing in there. What would be the optimal all around gearing for a 17 turn motor? Thanks in advance for your thoughts...

Thanks for the quick reply...so it's the 6 gear tranny. I plan to start pulling it all apart soon, clean it up and see what the inside of the the transmission looks like. I'm in the mode of searching for parts, kind of before I actually know what parts I need.
