I'm only interested in Schumacher's buggies & racing trucks, so deliberately left off all their circuit cars, touring cars & modern bashing stuff. Took me long enough to sort out that list, let alone everything else Happy for someone else to pick up the batten though (hint, hint ).

As far as I know you are right, Cecil Schumacher is credited with inventing the ball diff. The very early examples I own have "Pat. App." moulded into the diff gear. Be interested to know if Cecil actually got his patent..hmm...off to find out if there is a website for UK patent searches...

The last buggy Schumacher produced which would be allowed is the Cougar 2000 "XPC". Cougar 95 team and all subsequent buggies(including Fireblade series) would not be allowed.

IMHO to even allow the Cougar 2000 is a bit of a stretch but that is a discussion for another thread.

Updated Schumacher timeline June 2010.

This only lists electric buggies, not nitro cars or the Wildcat series. Prices are actual retail prices around the time the kit was launched (not RRP - the CAT 2000EC RRP was £335!!)
Data collected from manuals, catalogues & UK modelshop adverts and not magazine reviews which are notoriously late. However the release order within a given year might not be accurate. Some cars such as the Bosscat and the CAT 2000 were sold alongside each other for a while, and others such as the Club10 & Cougar 2000 were upgraded over time, but kept the same kit part number. Hope this helps any Schumacher fans out there. If I've got anything wrong, or anyone has more info about which cars won what races please get in touch & I'll edit it - enjoy!

It pains me to say but in the early 90's I retired a topcat after I had moved on to something "better". Ten years later I think it went in the garbage in a mass cleaning thinking it was worth nothing, I had no idea of the vintage scene then and had been out of RC for some while so did not even think to check.

So somewhere in a landfill we may have a hidden treasure.

Don't worry about it... my old Top Cat, Pro Cat, XLS and Cougar/Shotgun are in a landfill somewhere too... together with all my Kyosho Optimas and a fair few Tamiya originals... :'(

Landfill....... I talked with the PB importers here in Australia a few years ago, and they informed me that ALL Mini Mustang / Maxima / Ace parts stock they had in store were landfilled...... they needed the space in their warehouse....

I shed a tear that day.....

Hi have a brand new ProCat SE, this one fit as some told's glass fiber chassis and top deck, BossCat style gold shocks, Aero disc wheels but also the Schumacher slipper.
Mine just miss the front dive shafts, and I'm pretty sure than it comes with the one way drive shafts, any info about this ?

I think the story goes more or less like this. When developing the standard wheel base CAT (SWB - not short wheel base) Andy Dobson ,one of the best 1:12 drivers at the time, was the main test driver. The standard wheel base was set to best test results with his driving style. He was famous for his quick reactions and driving offroad in more of a 1:12 track manner. This was all in 1985-86 (SWB was released late 1986).

First off road season after release, winter and early spring 1987, it became clear to the team that most drivers would benefit from a longer wheel base. Preparing for the worlds at Romsey 1987, Cecil Schumacher described his own reaction capability as geriatric compared to Andy Dobson.

So the term "Geriatric CAT" was introduced spring 1987 as the none released evolution steps twoards the more calm and forgiving XL.

Also drivers outside the team experimented making longer chassis plates. I made a +10 mm version allowing me to keep the original belt. I don't know all the prototype versions from the team, but I've seen 10, 12 and 20 mm extensions compared to the SWB. Glyn Pegler proved the success of the "geriatric CAT" winning the Reedy Race at Romsey spring -87, the warm-up for the worlds same year.The actual released version of the "geriatric CAT" in -87, was the XL - arriving at +25 mm compared to the SWB. With this much of difference one also included the longer belt (from #T128 (298/4 mm) to #T152 (323/4 mm)) and matching body/undertray/beltcover.
