Topcat!
Recently aquired from Bormac!
Been looking for a nice Topcat for a while, and couldn't resist. Composite Craft chassis.
All is new with exception of the wheels and front tires. Polished Kyosho gold shocks.
Question to the Schuey guys here, what would be the most likely period correct electronics you would find in one of these cars?

Re: Topcat!
OOOOOOOOHHHHH! Darn sexy! BORMAC is the king! Topcat was released in 1986. So...Novak NESC-T1 would be a good choice. And batteries would be Sanyo 1700SCE's or 1400SCR's. Thats what everyone was using when I was racing my falcon. I remember a Topcat running in the "a" main. Completely destroyed the field. The Topcat was the first car I bought when I got back into RC. A classic!

Re: Topcat!
Glad to see this car go to such a deserving great guy. This was one of the best Schueys Ive ever built (and painted).
I thought this car was released in 1989......

Re: Topcat!
Lovely! - Was this the one you had advertised very briefly on Tamiyaclub Bormac?? I must admit I was tempted... the TopCat was my first proper competition R/C car, would be nice to own another!
As for period electronics... its a tricky one - I live just a few miles from the Schumacher factory, so alot of the local racers ran Schumacher cars. Therefore i'd associate these old Schumacher cars with the electrics that were popular back then in the UK....
So - Phil Greeno matched 1400 SCRs (SCEs were considered best for 4wd as they needed the extra capacity with more drivetrain drag)
- Either a Demon Modified or MG Orange or Brown dot for 27t Stock
- Speedmaster Turbo Goldstar ESC, popular ESC made in Luton, UK.
- Radio-wise we favoured 40mhz Futaba or JRmagregor - virtually always a stick set
- KO servos were rather exotic but we all considered the 1001 with the FET booster the fastest & the one to have!

Re: Topcat!
I sold that Ultima to offset the cost of this. Add that to all the ebay coupons/bonus bucks, and cashback, plus the bing discount and I was only $150 out of pocket for this car.
I have quite a few more vehicles to get on here. Winter time = boredom time. Good time to get some lingering projects moving along. Come spring I will have a lot of painting to do!

Re: Topcat!
I've never seen a topcat in person until Friday night, Brandon pulled out the airmail box with a little smile. It's an awesome looking car, very ahead of it's time.
