Bad news for me today

Post by fastang »

Found out today that I am going under the knife in March. I have Degenerative Disk Disease (DDD) in my lower back. Lucky me! The last disk in my spine is rotted away and this causes my sciatic(Sp?) nerve to be pinched causing allot of pain. I guess its kinda rare in some one my age (33). I knew it would eventually come down to surgery but we tried to put it off as long as possible. Its to the point where the meds don't help with the pain any more so I don't have much of a choice. I've been dealing with this for the last 6 years so Im looking forward to being pain free. I hope it works!

I guess I will be in the hospital for 3-4 days and be out of work for a month +. I guess I will need to buy a NIB kit to pass time so I don't go crazy LOL! I wonder if I can get my insurance to cover it?! lol They better let me have my laptop in the hospital so I can check in here and maybe look at a little porn when the nurses aren't around

Wish me luck. I'll let you all know how it turns out.

Were you seeing a Chiropractor on a regular basis? How did they determine this? Radigraph only?

looks like we're gonna be the "march surgery boys". i'm finally (and it better friggin happen this time) having the surgey on my eyes to fix my rediculous amount of double vision. they cut the eye muscles, reposition the eye, then stitch them back together. i was supposed to have it done in november, but they postponed it. pissed me off.

so anyway, good luck dude!

Yes, we tried a bunch of stuff before deciding on this. Therapy, injections (I can't even begin to tell you how bad those sucked!) meds, patches, nothing really helped except the strong pain meds.

I found out about it after an injury suffered playing volleyball. I went up to spike the ball and I felt something explode in my back. I hit the sand ass first and it hurt so bad I couldn't move. I thought I was paralyzed from my belly button down. An ambulance came and scraped me up and brought me to the hospital where they did MRIs and discovered the condition. You can see on the MRI the bad disk is black where the good disks are nice and white.

Another big factor in all of this is my insurance. It sucks! I went through hell getting them to pay some of the bills.

Well I have had more than one friend go through surgery for disk repair, and while it sucked they all came out fine after that and I hope all goes well--and as far as Insurance, don't get me started--as an employer I carry BC/BS and my coverage for me and my family sucks!

Isn't Obama fixing that insurance problem?

On a serious note, I wish you the best of luck and a speedy recovery!
The preceding contained opinions, beliefs and thoughts that all may not agree with. No offense was intended at any point. Carry on.

I know this is a serious subject, but I couldn't resist and I know you'll chuckle. Man, I couldn't imagine having that happen when I looked at Reg. One is enough to deal with.

Hope I'm racing? That's like Scr8p hoping I'll build an RC10.

Yeah, she's coming.... she just can't come on Friday. She started a new job last week (FINALLY!). We talked about bringing the dogs to keep Brian's/bscotti daughter occupied. Well see..... we need to stop hijacking this thread.

Ah! the voice of reason! anyway I was asking because I recently ( at the behest of my photo deleting better? half) was going to the Chiropractor and my T5 spine is a a bit "unusual" and after
6 adjustments, it only seems to be getting more pronounced..

I've herd some bad things about some Chiropractors. I've seen a few and actually felt worse after word. They said thats normal but you will feel better in a few days. A week would go by and I would feel the same as I went in.

On the insurance thing, there are two different procedures the doc can do. A fusion or a disk replacement. The replacement sounds like a better option but my insurance wont cover it. They say its not "proven" yet, even though its been done in Europe for years with great success.

Good luck to you too Scr8p. I think I would rather have mine. Something about a knife in my eyeball doesn't sit well with me.
