as much as i've embraced modern tech, i still got a place in my heart for accelerator pumps and mechanical advance...
nothing beats tuning with a timing light, a toothpick, and a vacuum guage.

Re: 2009 auto engine of the year
I feel sorry for the kids today that think 4cylinder honda's and cobalts etc are powerfull and fast. Don't get me wrong, with some work and big $$$ they can be. They just don't realize that a bone stock mustang or comaro with a v8 will smoke them with ease. They just have no idea what HP really is.

Re: 2009 auto engine of the year
My 7.3l (444ci) Turbo Diesel makes 742hp, 994ftlbs torque and gets 18mpg towing a 11,000 lb trailer, and 27mpg solo-----and will eat any Mustang Cobra's lunch

Re: 2009 auto engine of the year
Sure, but its not stock.
Anything can be made to go fast with $$$!
My point was more of a as they came from the factory.
Its very easy to reach 700hp from a 03 cobra but it isn't going to pull 11K lol!

Y'all need to humble yourselves and buy a real gem of engineering. One that gets awesomely bad mileage, can't outrun a dog, and sucks to drive. Yes, I am talking about a Wrangler!!! You will never need a silly LS2 or TDI. You can crawl up mountains instead and laugh at those simpletons who get great mileage. You will be proud to get 12 mpg if lucky, lol. Damn I hate my Jeep.
My $.02 - forced induction will be commonplace on most if not all manufacturers in the near future. It is easy, cheap, and can be tuned for great emissions.

35 years of RC and still broke!

diesel--and all the mods done other than trans and rear locker are the computer, intake, overboost regulator and open exhaust--all mods totaling less than 1k

Turbo Diesels are very impressive - big American iron or efficient German technology.
I did the Dealer training on the 2009 VW Jetta TDi and logged 5K miles on one - awesome car. Fast and efficient while still fun to drive - sorry Prius..........

Yep, you can do some amazing things with a diesel.
Cobra's are easy and cheap to mod too. Computer, blower pully, and exhaust, will net huge gains. Very similar mods to what you do with a diesel.
