Original inspiration for the Clodbuster?

Post by MelvinsArmy »

I just came across this site. I don't remember a truck called the Terminator, but I see a lot of the Clodbuster in it. You think this may have been the truck that inspired Tamiya? I'm fairly confident that Rolling Thunder (also pictured on this page and one of my favorites from bitd) was the inspiration for Vanessa's Lunchbox. Discuss. 8)

Except for the section behind the cab, the Terminator truck looks a lot like the Clodbuster, so it could be. This website makes the case for the original Sampson: http://www.tamiyabase.com/1to1scale/realcars.htm.

I definitely think Rolling Thunder was the inspiration for the Lunchbox; Tamiya should pay royalties for that one.

I love the 80s monster trucks. I went to quite a few monster truck shows and races when I was a kid :D .

Regards,

Robert

Oh yeah, Samson 1 looks just like the Clod too. Terminator has that Bruiser mini camper thing on the back. The tinted windows and all white wheels are very Clod-like though. They've both got the blower through the hood and Samson has the tilt just like the lines carved in the Clod body, along with the roll bar. Probably some kind of crossing of several popular trucks from back then. I like the photos of Japanese Monster Truck magazine in the link I posted, something tells me one of the Tamiya designers had a copy of that on their desk back in the mid-80's.
