10T for my nephew

I had my B4 and my old/new RC10 over to my brother's house last week and my 5 year old nephew had to be a part of the action. His birthday is coming up in January so I am throwing together a cheap, but decent RC for him. So far I bought a RC10T that is ok, but needs some work. I got a good deal on a LRP AI super reverse esc and a Reedy Radon 17T.

Does anyone recommend a pinion gear to use for a 5yr old with this setup?

And I am sure my brother will get his hands on it too, so maybe a 21T pinion gear for him

to slow the truck down there are a few options I have used:

1: run whatever the smallest pinion you can get to fit, which will depend on the size of the spur. really low gearing is great for wheelies when there is good traction and donuts when there is not

2: use a radio with end point adjustments on the throttle channel, and turn down the throttle throw so it only goes part throttle. The advantage of that is you can set it up with the larger pinion, and just turn up the end point when dad wants to drive. (this one drives my kids nuts as I can "magically" make the car go much faster than they can just by taking the remote from them)

3: 4-cell battery packs for the boy and 6-cell for dad.

I didn't think of using a small battery pack. I am giving them one of mine (6 cell) and a vintage charger to get started. And, a cheap radio to keep the cost down, so end points wont be able to adjusted...unless I let them use one of my radios until they buy a decent one. I like the radio end point adjustments, being the quickest fix. It will likely be given to them with a few pinion gears.

find all the rear inner suspension mounts ya can, i have a 10t and don't run it any more because i can't find the suspension mounts.

yeah, i am aware, but since i'm not going to be particular about wheelbase and toeing I will just us alloy gt arm mounts for replacements...there are lots on ebay.

i found some from a t2 and redrilled one set of the mounting holes .. they are holding up so far and the WB is still good too ....

i finally got home to see them for real...this is what i got to work with.

A LOT of cleaning, aka complete disassemble and reassemble to start with, strip all cool parts and keep them for myself, and get the rubber crap off of the black chassis, that should get me started

here is what i got done so far very clean, diffs are both regreassed, i rearranged the shock assemblies to better match each truck, added a blue gt noseplate to the black truck, just to name a few things. the wheels and tires need to be unglued and rims dyed black, and possibly some white rims under some of those painted wheels i got for the goldpan.

I got one good set of wheels out of that pile so far...a set of WHITE (under silver than purple paint) 3pc wheels wrapped in Pro-line Road Hawgs . Looks like I can get a decent set of losi wheels too for the other one. Got lots of 3pc rear rims left over after 2 full sets of backup wheels for the kids.

Are there any new truck bodies out there that will fit the RC10T decently I don't have a T4, or any other trucks for that matter, to compare.

The bodies are looking pretty beat up.

Shoot HPI an email about their Silverado, Ram, and F350 bodies. It was a while ago, when their message board was still active, but I think they might fit an RC10T. http://www.hpiracing.com/hpibodies/truck/ I'm looking at these for my own truck.

I told my brother that if these trucks get any nicer I will be getting the kids clothes and keeping them I was only supposed to spend about $100 on each, but it's up to $300 already, lol.

I bought and purchased that same HPI lid for my 10T- and surprisingly enough it looks like it will mount up pretty good. I haven't done any painting or trim work on the body to finish but it will be real close and should look good!

My worry was the high rear shock towers and they look like they might clear within the "rear rollbar/toolbox" area and have a good flat spot to body mount.

Once again I am just eyeballing the best I can with a non-trimmed clear HPI body
