SHELBY GT500 KR Sold for $432,000. This time-capsule car, driven only 6,500 miles since 1968, was completely original — including tires, belts and spark plugs. GT500's are not supposed to bring more than GT350's, but this car's special condition made it worthy of the price it brought at Barrett-Jackson.

PLYMOUTH HEMI 'CUDA Sold for $2,160,000. This convertible, was one of just 14 built for 1970 with the 426 engine. For those who questioned rumors that Hemis were selling privately for seven figures, the sale price at Barrett-Jackson should erase any doubt.

the majority of those cars went for much less than they had estimated. that 70 chevelle sold at barrett jackson like 2 years for around $1.2 million. 2 years later, sell for around $250,000. nice investment THAT was.

this 56 chevy sold at the same peterson/rm auction. had this car been for sale on the east coast instead of the west coast in 2003-04, i would be the owner. i wanted this car bad. but apparently not bad enough to drive/fly to the west coast to look at it. and there's no way i was gonna buy it sight unseen. it was for sale on gasser madness by the guy that restored it for like $20,000. he bought it from the original owner that bought the car new in 56, and drag raced it throughout the 60's, early 70's. the car even won the 1970 nhra winternationals in h/stock. it's a fully documented piece.

a guy on another forum i frequent ended up buying the car, sat on it awhile, took it to barrett-jackson in 2007 and sold it for almost $60,000. i think it sold for $45,000 at this auction.

i wanted it to keep it, not flip it. would've been a nice car to run at the nostalgia drags. :)

Not a big surprise on those cars, many of those at the auction are pretty iconic. I'd say half a million for the Little Red Wagon is a bargain. In another 10 years when vintage drag cars are an even bigger thing to collect, those cars will sell again for a lot more than that. I'd say vintage drag racing is under priced.

A year or so ago one of Roland Leong's Hawaiian Punch funny cars was up for auction. That was my favorite car from back in the day. I remember it selling for a surprising low amount. At least it seems low to me, considering what it was. I can't remember for sure, but I want to say it was under 50K.

Hell yeah that is one nice 56..years ago I worked for a car dealership that specialized in American musle cars..most of them were never sold new here in NZ but we got most of ours from the guys who ran the USA's deep freeze base at Antartica..no they didn't take them to the ice...they had a sort of camp in Christchurch where the ground crews etc for the Air Force lived. A lot of these serviceman brought their cars over here with them...somebody told me once that the airforce allowed them to bring the cars over on the C130 Hercules. What a sight that must of been..anyway we had like an endless supply of Mustangs,Corvettes,Camaros and a few Mopars..we had some pretty cool cars that's for sure...

During the 50's and early 60's we could buy Chev's and Fords NEW here...there wouldn't be many right hook 56 chevs in the USA I wouldn't imagine..

Here's a car similar to the one you have pictured http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Motors/Cars/Chevrolet/2/auction-247704526.htm it's left hook but look at that price..

It's only $1000 to send a car from New Zealand to the United States? I guess they put it in a shipping container?

I am currently restoring a 70' Shelby GT500KR.

I worked on the lowest milage Hemi Cuda left on the planet, a 70' with 74 miles on it. It was bought brand new off the showroom floor specifically for drag racing. The car was featured in Mopar Action December 2006, and is fully documented. It went to BJ in spring of 2007 and was bid up to $550,000, but my Boss wouldn't sell it for that. The car went into storage in a local private museum, I stopped working for that guy, and I have no idea what happened to the car after that. As far as I know it is still in storage, but it may have been sold by now. I would like to know what he got for it.

Crazy. I've paid more than $100 to ship a bicycle across the country. Makes spending $1000 to send a car across the ocean sound like a bargain.

And that is what we used to pay to get a car here from the states..it might be even cheaper sending one there..

That's only true for the years that only had a release of the GT350, ie the '65 and '66 with the '65s being the creme of the crop. In the years of where they offered both, '67 -'70, unless it's an ultra rare special car, the GT500s always go higher than the GT350s.

No, not mine. I wish! It's a customers car. The guys like me, who restore cars like that, can't afford to own them. lol.....

If I could have any classic car I wanted, it would probably a 67 GT500. And yes, I would have said the before "Elenore" was famous. God I hate that movie....

I am also working on, actually almost done with, a 69 boss 302

The 69 302 is my second choice. I wanted to own one someday, but with the prices.......... at least I have what I dreamed of owning. Pics of the 302 would be great if possible.
