Here's a vintage speed control with an interesting story. This is a "Delta Auto-Drive" speed control. Before Kevin Orton started Tekin, he was working for Delta. At Delta he invented the first MOSFET speed contoller for R/C cars. This pictured speed control is one of the first production run. It has four FETs and was made to fit on the T-bar and between saddle packs of the 1/12 Delta Super Phaser. Ken Campbell gave me this controller at the ROAR 1/8 gas nats in Montreal during mid-summer 1984. This is almost a full year before Novak came out with their first electronic speed control. At the 1984 US 1/12 indoor nats in Cleveland these controllers were starting to gain popularity. At that race you could tell which drivers were using the electonic speed controller and which were still using a resistor set-up. When an electronically controlled car's battery would dump close to the heat's eight minute mark, it would stay in a straight line and slowly stutter to a stop. At that point the crowd would affectionately cheer out "ORTON-BOMB"!

single 'button' set-up , over-current protection and sooo small. What were all those other companies doing for years after this one. Why did they need lunchboxes to fit the electronics while delta could do this???

Cool Delta ESC. I bid on a slightly different Delta ESC earlier this year and I got beat out at about £180, if my memory serves!

I can't remember what else was included inside the cardboard box. ( maybe an extra feet of silver wires with "DELTA" logo printed on) What I remeber is ,I won a few race with this Delta Auto Drive & Super Phaser car. :D
