That's cool the early 1/8th cars were bodied as either grand prix or Indy cars, so definitely late 70's. Good action shots.

Re: Vintage 1970s RC car racing video
There is just something so cool about R/C cars that look like...cars.
Why did we ever get into the Buck Rogers looking crap....(Losi 8T, Associated RCB, or ANY 8th scale 4X4 buggy anyone?) Sure they're fun, but who the hell ever saw anything that ugly in real life? When did we go from realism to cartoon looks? ..why?
Is it any wonder that the Slash & RC10SC are so popular compared to 4WD buggies? An 8th scale Trans Am or GT class (ala' HPI's muscle series) would be a blast! 8th scale, SCALE cars like those would be great & would revive this type of racing.
I saw this on MIP's website the other day:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fI4RnN_90MY
The video is as old as dirt, but the cars look awesome (SCALE)..check out the 'Vette & the Lola's. Oh, it's about 40+ years old too!

I here ya. I would love to get a 1/8 scale car. Right now the only thing holding me back is the cash . The only new kit that i know of is the serpent. Or i could get a used one and restore it. I see used ones on ebay but the prices get up there for one.

There was an article in RC Model Cars (American version) about Norbert Meyer, who is credited with creating the first radio controlled cars. I'll see if I can dig it up soon.

By the late 60's there were kits available but back in the late 50's when it first started I think they were built from scratch.

I realize I am quoting a very old post, but does anyone know if this article is in here, or possibly an external link? I tried to search the site, but got 39 pages.SteveK wrote:There was an article in RC Model Cars (American version) about Norbert Meyer, who is credited with creating the first radio controlled cars.
