Brushless Motor in a Hot Shot?????

Has anyone tried a Brushless motor in a Hot Shot bases buggy.

Want a brushless for mine but not sure as the gearing is limted.
Was thinking somthing around 10t equilavent.

Any Ideas.

oh im sure you will have drivetrain problem down the road..but i think that maybe the best motor close to the 10t equilavent ... if i was to run a brushless hotshot id want more of a stock racing 27t equilavent...

There have been a couple BL-equipped Hotshots posted over at TC. I have not tried it as I only have Mamba Max's and have no idea how I'd fit that ESC in the mech box. Plus I would think you'd need to squeeze a fan in there to keep it all cool. Honestly I run a P2K with a 2c lipo in mine and it is plenty fast for a track. If I ever try it I would go with a 17.5. As far as a 10t BL equivalent, I would never invest that much in a Hotshot to create a 40+ mph basher. It won't last very long- whether it be gearboxes or a-arms.
If you do create a BL Hotshot, please post video and/or pictures!

I still not sure about it but i want somthing stronger than a 19t. Not much. I have a heap of modified motors left over from racing days of 5 yrs ago so might have a look at that. The 19t is a sweet performer in the Hot Shot so i may even stick with that.

I want to run my recent aquired Super Shot runner in MOD at the vintage meet here in Australia but the only 2 classes is sport tune or mod. THe shots are way to slow with a sport Tune.

As For the Gearbox and diffs i think they are very strong and would handel a lot power. Didnt the BIG WIG come with Technigold with 8.4 V strapped in??

I agree with the arms but if thats the case i will grab the Metal arms from HOT SHOT. Yep got spare diff casses as they will be next.

Mine has a hard time with a sport tune and the speedie doesnt produceb the amps to match a 4wd drive train. Dont get me wrong as i have over 6 of them but are really ok in 2wd with no more than a sport tune.

i have 2 buddys with 4wd onroads, geared for speed, running that setup with a 6 cell nimh bat and no problems..i run a 6 gear rc10 with a 20 turn duratrax "race" motor and 6 cell nimh with no problems

I have found that the quality of the TEU-101BK ESCs is all over the board. One may run super cool with anything you throw at it and the next one burns up with a properly geared stock motor. I think the quality control on those particular speedies is total garbage... but the same could be said for most included electronics. They are stock items to get the first-time hobbyist up and running.

Honestly, If your Hot Shot is in good condition and you want to keep it that way I wouldn't go brushless. Most of the older and even some of the the newer stuff can't handle the power a good brushless system puts out. It will destroy any weak link in the drive train and you better be a decent driver. It's your car, but I would advise you only to try it out if you have a good amount of spare parts, otherwise I wouldn't.

In my opinion if your a speed freak brushless is the way to go. You'll love it, just put it in a car or truck that you can get parts for cheap and easy.

Im not sure I completely agree with you Grumbles.
Just here me out-
Many of the brushless systems now have more than enough adjustments when it comes to motor timing, throttle profiles and the like. mark isnt looking to strap in a 3.5t motor but rather a reliable reasonably fast set up. Brushed motors require maintenance where as brushless are simple to keep if you oild the bearing every so often. I think what mark wants to know is if anybody else out there has been running a successful combo in their Hotshot,Supershot,Boomerang etc.. They all use similar drivetrains and if the Big Wig could withstand 8.4v and a Sports Tuned back in the day then Im sure there must be some kind of equivelant out there in brushless.
If i'd stopped my little missions with many of the vintage cars i run today because someone told me I couldn't do it, then I would not have learnt what i have with these old cars today. Brushless is definately the future (if not already) and I will be aiming for a 10.5/19t equivelant when I have my Super Shot sorted out. Matched with my 5000 30c lipo's I think this will make for some very fun racing.

Never thought of a 10.5 but might be just the ticket.

Testing with a 11dbl showed signs of over geared but man did it go well.
The Metal suspension kit worked so well and even pulled a mono on the straight.

Didnt over heat the motor but was close after 4 min mark.

Drive train NO problems.

Will try 13 dbl next i say.

I agree on Jason remarks, however expect the worst thing will happen to your gears later on.
HotShot or older Tamiya buggies does not have slippers, not good for bumpy tracks or with jumps.
But running of flat asphalt pavement i think you dont need to worry about chewed bevel gears.
