My $3 Truck
My $3 Truck
Here's a Kyosho truck I picked up at the flea market last night. The seller originally said 5 bucks , then my wife gives a look like "for that pile of junk" so he then said 3 bucks and I said sold ! Any Chicagoland members should give the Wheaton all-night flea market a look . I believe it runs Saturday night till morning , neat stuff , decent food , just remember to bring the flashlights. Anyway the truck in good condition but the body is a different story , it will be my project dune basher . Can you guys tell me what model this is? It is also missing the spur gear and cover , if someone could provide the part numbers it would be greatly appreciated and yes , that is scotch tape holding the esc
Re: My $3 Truck
Kyosho Outlaw Ultima, The chassis itself looks like its in ok shape compared to the body. The gear you're missing is actually a counter gear, small gear on the inside and big gear on th outside. The real pain is the gear cover is what keeps that gear on the shaft.
A&L still makes their belt drive transmission for it.

Re: My $3 Truck
Hell the tires alone are worth the $3 , nice find! Im in eastern Iowa, might have to take a drive out that way if they are going that cheap.
Thats just the standard Ultima, Optima gear cover and counter gear right? You can find those all over the fleabay unless Im mistaken, Ive never owned one of those trucks.

Re: My $3 Truck
You might be able to salvage the body by using nitro fuel....looks like it was painted on the outside. Do not soak it in nitro as it really dries of the lexan....just use a rag dipped in nitro.

Re: My $3 Truck
I can really advise to get 2 flanged 8x4 bearings instead of the standard 8x4 bushings/bearings kyosh suggests in the manual.Prince Steve wrote: Here are the parts you need so far. - Counter gear with the bearings & Gear cover
With the flanged bearings you can really adjust the gear position so it doesn't scrub the cover, other gear or moter plate.
Re: My $3 Truck
Thanks for the information guys , figure I would start on the body first . Unfortunately it was painted several colors on the outside and inside . I stripped all of the paint off ( ahh.. the smell of vintage Testor enamel ) the outside and resprayed the inside black . The gray windows are actually decals on the outside of the truck . The outside was scratched badly so I repainted it red and white and then pulled of the old window decals . I'll have to tape some of the cracks but it should make a good runner.

Re: My $3 Truck
Nice job, you can still probably source decals to give you the lights etc off ebay, outlaw rampage look like they might do

or those
from manual pic might look right and cheap enough.

Re: My $3 Truck
The outlaw ramoage, outlaw ultima, and the outlaw raider all share the same body so any of the decals should fit. I saw some raider decals on ebay for $8 plus $5 shipping.

Re: My $3 Truck
Thanks for the help with the decals but unfortunately the body is cracked in many places . I would hate to waste a good sticker sheet on it , will probaly just use some left over decals from other bodie's. Started to cleaned up the chassis , replaced the missing screws and fixed the steering link . Looks like its all bushings inside , havent decided if I should switch them out to bearings . I noticed that the battery compartment is quite large , was it meant to be run with saddle packs ?

Re: My $3 Truck
Maybe put a losi XX body on it and some sandviper wheels; instant buggy conversion (CRP still sells the 5mm axles to convert to Tamiya front wheels)

Re: My $3 Truck
Pretty sure mine had a stick pack from stock, but with those odd Kyosho black tamiya plugs, exactly the same but reverse polarity

Re: My $3 Truck
The chassis is indeed laid -out for saddle packs but kyosho was well aware most people would go stick packs and they made sure those'd fit too.
I've also seen a couple of these trucks where the saddle packs were put length-wise (not sure how to say it otherwise). It seems that was the best way to run them
