Don't be intimidated by the Lipo/Brushless equipped cars, I ran my Losi last year with 4600 NIMH packs and Brushed Stock Motor, and made the A-main in 2wd, and I have only been racing Off Road for 2 months.
There's going to be more than enough racing/tech. experience at the VONATs than you'll ever need
Life is like a box of chocolate, you never know what R/C car you're gonna get next!!!
Cool thats exactly what the stress was about lipo/brushless i have never even had one in my hands. I just dont know the first thing about them i really just cant get into anything thats not vintage. So i have the 4600 i figure i will get another and a 27t slot machine with some futaba elec's and man when i ever went outside and ran it i could not believe the speed .
Write!!! I mean i really couldn't believe it i really havent run a car in 10 years (sad) all i do is restore them and it just sat me in my seat. Yeasterday i was so in the dumps thinking man i cant do this but now im so game. ITS ON
reign I ran (not very sucessfully however) a handfull of beat up old stock motors (what else does a carpet oval racer do with obsolete equipment?) and although my reliability certainly wasn't there, speed was just fine. One of the many reasons I selected this track last year aside from them being friends and great guys, was that the layouts are very well thought out and its not a horsepower house, Mark and Jon keep it all about driving and setup.
Hey Freddy, what night do you race wed or sat? I wanted to start practicing (if I could get 5 mins of freetime) and thought it'd be fun if we went the same night. Honestly Wed. are a little better for me but I can try to make either work. Let me know.
To all. So I'm proud to announce Car Action magazine will be on board covering the event live online from their site so all that can't make it can still catch all the action on their site. Also so far I'm proud to announce sponsorship by:
Car Action Magazine, Team Associated, Schumacher, Tamiya, Novak, RC Products Designs, J Concepts, Hobbytalk.com, Xtreme RC Cars Magazine, Checkpoint, Duratrax, and Venom.
I'm working on securing a few more and will be sure to post them as soon as I hear back. This years race is starting to sound like its going to be an awesome year to come to CT (oh and btw, for those that came last year, the weather here has been MUCH cooler and we're already heading back into the mid 70's... looks like fall is coming early this year!). Hope to see you all really soon!
I can only make Saturday Races, due to my job (night shift), I don't know if you've heard, but we're having a trophy race on Saturday, and we might have a separate Vintage Class to run in, it's mostly going to be 2wd buggies, with VONATs rules. So far I think we got 5 cars scheduled to show and race.
If you want to, come down.
But I'm usually at the Track on Saturdays...

How about introducing an antique class, cars made 1986 and under.
Could be called retro racing, old codger class etc....
Rules could be:
1. Cars manufactured/Released under Dec/1986 only.
2. Modification unrestricted, but must have original body/cage and chassis.
eg: different shocks, wheels, chassis stiffeners, after market parts for that particular model allowed.
3. Motors/batteries unrestricted, your risk of blowing up the gearbox if you go hard on motors.
Well, I am committed now, I'll be there. Even though this is falling in the middle of a huge project at work that will be due on or around Oct 5th-ish and against my boss' better judgement.
I am not here cause I am playing photographer and on my mountain bike. www.gojammedia.com

Great to hear!
Now that we have that question out of the way, will you be running anything that doesn't have a flash?
